A chair comprising a seat, and a backrest including a lower portion which is connected to the seat and which has an upper end, a rear surface, and a forwardly facing lower body supporting surface, an upper portion having a lower end, an upper body supporting surface, and a surface opposite the upper body supporting surface, and structure connecting the lower end of the upper portion to the upper end of the lower portion for translational movement relative thereto between a locked position wherein the upper and lower body supporting surfaces are generally coplanar, and an intermediate position spaced upwardly from the locked position, and for pivotal movement relative thereto between the intermediate position and a folded-up position wherein the rear surface of the lower portion and the opposite surface of the upper portion are substantially in abutment.

Water-powered brush

A device for joining a toilet seat and cover to a commode without using tools and from only one side. A base assembly is attached to the commode using a bolt rotated by a hand graspable head portion. A cover conceals the bolt assembly from view. In one embodiment the head portion of the bolt folds out of sight and into engagement with the base; a cover, attached to the base then folds over the handle. In another embodiment the head portion of the expanding bolt folds into the base; the base and the folded head forming complementary interlocking structures disguising the bolt assembly. The bolt employs a nut indexed to a slit on the stem portion of the base. Manipulating the head portion of the bolt draws the nut into engagement with the stem. The outward flaring of the stem anchors the bolt in the mounting holes of the commode. The head portion of the bolt holds the base on the commode. In one embodiment the stem is separable from the base.

A card file having a rotor with radiating arms, each of which has a card-carrying tray detachably connected thereto. The rotor is mounted in a housing for rotation about a horizontal axis so that each tray can be brought to a detent-defined viewing position at which the tray is disposed in a substantially horizontal attitude affording ready access to the file cards carried thereby. Inwardly facing ribs on the lower portion of the housing have their edges concentric to the axis of the rotor to be engagable by the outer extremities of the trays as they traverse the lower portion of their orbit upon rotation of the rotor, to thereby prevent detachment of the trays from the rotor arms. The various components of the rotor are held assembled with one another and with the housing entirely without reliance upon screws, bolts, rivets or the like. Upon removal of the card trays from the rotor, they can be connected in side-by-side relationship by interengaging dovetails to form a rigid desk unit which facilitates reference to the contents of all of the trays.
