A product may include a bearing housing in which a shaft may be supported by a bearing so that it may rotate. A compressor wheel may be disposed on the shaft. A compressor cover may be connected with the bearing housing, which may form a compressor body and may define a chamber within which the compressor wheel may rotate. A diffuser may extend radially outward from the chamber and may receive gas from the compressor wheel. An inlet may be provided to the compressor body, which may receive a supply of exhaust gas. An EGR distribution cavity may be defined within the compressor body and may extend around the shaft. An EGR inlet channel may extend into the bearing housing from the inlet to the EGR distribution cavity. An EGR passage may extend from the EGR distribution cavity to the diffuser.

A number of variations may include a turbine housing comprising a turbine body; an inlet passage and an outlet passage connected to the turbine body; a wastegate passage operatively connected to the outlet passage; a diffuser positioned within the outlet passage comprising at least one radial opening; wherein the first flow passage accepts fluid flow from the wastegate passage and the second flow passage accepts fluid flow from the turbine wheel; wherein a first end of the diffuser is attached to a first end of the turbine outlet and a second end of the diffuser is attached to a second end of the turbine outlet so that fluid flow from the first flow passage is directed into the second flow passage through the at least one radial opening before exiting the outlet passage, and wherein the at least one radial opening minimizes turbulence of fluid flow exiting the turbine housing.

A radial flow compressor includes a device () for controlling air flow detachment from the volute tongue (). The device () may include a vane () or hole () in the tongue (), and serves to redirect air over the volute tongue (). The device () aids in decreasing the velocity of air flow at the volute tongue (), diminishes the vortices that develop at the volute tongue () from the high air velocities, and redirects air over the volute tongue () allowing the air to flow through the narrow passage and attach to the walls of the volute outlet ().

Controlling turbocharger compressor choke

A turbocharger () includes a shaft () rotatably supported within a bearing housing (), a turbine wheel () connected to the shaft (), and a heat shield () disposed between the turbine wheel () and the bearing housing (). The heat shield () includes surface features () formed on at least one of a sidewall () portion thereof and a flange () portion thereof that locate the heat shield () relative to the bearing housing () such that the heat shield () is coaxial with the rotational axis of the shaft ().

The flow path of exhaust gas to the turbine wheel () of a turbocharger is influenced by relative motion between two rings of vanes, at least one of which being provided on a vane ring. The outer ring of vanes contains a plurality of vanes (), the inner ring of vanes contains a plurality of vanes (), and the inner and outer vanes in registry forming a single generic vane shape. The aerodynamic effect of relative displacement of the outer ring of vanes to the inner ring of vanes produces a modulate-able control of exhaust flow to the turbine wheel.
