Dental glass compositions utilizing a glass ionomer and an acidic copolymer

A composite material is provided which, while having an unusually high filler content may be extruded from a dental syringe and remains easily adaptable in the dental cavity. When materials of the present invention are cured, dental restorations are provided which have unusually high surface hardness and yield strength, as well as a low volume shrinkage on curing. This is achieved by use of a mixture of filler particles with a specific size, size range, and size relationship. Such a combination of properties makes the material of the present invention particularly useful for restoring cavities in posterior teeth.

Dental composite restorative material and method of restoring a tooth

A tooth surface treatment composition includes an acidic component which is at least one water-soluble acid in an aqueous solution, such that when the composition is applied to the tooth surface and not subsequently washed, it will increase the adhesiveness of the tooth structure. A method of treating a tooth structure includes contacting the tooth structure with such a composition.

Tooth surface treatment composition and methods

A preferred embodiment of the invention provides a composition and method of treating dental metal. The composition includes a polymerizable aryl compound having at least one carboxylic acid group and at least one polymerizable group, and a polymerizable compound having at least one polymerizable group and at least one phosphorous containing group. A preferred composition includes at least 50 percent by weight of a volatile organic solvent, at least 15 percent by weight of one or more polymerizable acrylate compounds and an effective amount of a photoinitiator. At least a portion of the polymerizable compounds are multifunctional polymerizable compounds having at least three acrylate moieties. The polymerizable compounds are substantially soluble in the solvent. The composition is adapted to form a polymeric material which is adapted to adhere to metal and ceramics and to dentin. Compositions of the invention have superior adhesion to dental metals and tooth without separately acid etching dentin or enamel. Compositions are useful as dental priming adhesives, luting cements, liners, pit and fissure sealants, bases and restoratives.

Method and composition for adhering to metal dental structure

The invention provides a self etching adhesive dental primer composition, a method of use of the primer composition and a product formed from the primer. The dental product is formed from the primer composition which includes water, surfactant and polymerizable material in suspension in the water. The polymerizable material includes monomers which are water immiscible. Preferably the monomers have an average molecular weight less than 1000. The primer composition is used by applying the composition to unetched dental tooth enamel and the polymerizable material is polymerized to form a dental product having adhesion to the enamel of more than 13 MPa. Improved surfactants which contain at least one ethenically unsaturated polymerizable group are provided in accordance with the invention. Surfactants of the present invention copolymerize with and become an integral part of any polymerizable resin matrix in which they are incorporated. This prevents migration of the surfactant through the matrix or slow leaching-out through the interfaces, and brings advantages of biocompatibility and stability of the physical properties of the cured matrix. In addition, the surfactant becomes a permanent part of the matrix, and forms part components of the matrix.

Self etching adhesive primer composition and polymerizable surfactants

A composition and method of treating a dental tooth surface and adhering a restorative material to the treated dental tooth surface is provided. A liquid composition is applied to at least the portion of the tooth to form a treated surface. The composition includes at least 50 percent by weight of a volatile organic solvent, at least 15 percent by weight of one or more polymerizable acrylate compounds and an effective amount of a photoinitiator. At least a portion of the polymerizable compounds are multifunctional polymerizable compounds having at least three acrylate moieties. The polymerizable compounds are substantially soluble in the solvent. The composition is adapted to form a polymeric material which is adapted to adhere to dentin with a bond strength of at least 12 MPa. Restorative material is then adhered to the treated surface with a bond strength of at least about 12 MPa. The polymeric material has a yield strength of at least 50 MPa, an elastic modulus of at least 1,000 MPa, a resilience of at least 0.4 MPa and/or provides an initial marginal integrity after etching the teeth of at least 90 percent.

Method and composition for priming and adhering to tooth structure

A composition and method of treating a dental tooth. Compositions of are useful as dental priming adhesives, luting cements, liners, pit and fissure sealants, bases and restoratives.

Method and composition for adhering to tooth structure

The invention provides a fluoride releasing dental primer composition which includes a polymerizable acrylic compound, a light activated catalyst, and an organic amino hydrofluoride. This fluoride releasing dental primer composition is used by applying it to dentin and illuminating it with visible light to polymerize the polymerizable acrylic compound. The invention provides a method of priming dentin by applying a fluoride releasing dental primer composition. The fluoride releasing dental primer composition has a polymerizable acrylic compound, a light activated catalyst, and an organic amino hydrofluoride having from about 2 to about 30 carbon atoms. The polymerizable acrylic compound is adapted to polymerize to form polymeric material. The organic amino hydrofluoride is adapted to leach from the polymeric material, chelate to dentin and release fluoride.

Fluoride releasing dental primer composition and method

A composition and method of treating a dental tooth surface and adhering a restorative material to the treated dental tooth surface is provided. A liquid composition is applied to at least the portion of the tooth to form a treated surface. The composition includes at least 50 percent by weight of a volatile organic solvent, at least 15 percent by weight of one or more polymerizable acrylate compounds and an effective amount of a photoinitiator. At least a portion of the polymerizable compounds are multifunctional polymerizable compounds having at least three acrylate moieties. The polymerizable compounds are substantially soluble in the solvent. The composition is adapted to form a polymeric material which is adapted to adhere to dentin with a bond strength of at least 12 Mpa. Restorative material is then adhered to the treated surface with a bond strength of at least about 12 MPa.

A method is provided for clinical retention of restorative material by a natural tooth. A first portion of photopolymerizable liquid primer/adhesive dental composition is applied to a tooth surface. After leaving the first portion of the liquid composition on the tooth surface undisturbed for at least 15 seconds on the tooth surface air is conveyed against the first portion of the liquid. The light is impinged on the first portion of the liquid composition whereby at least a portion of the first portion of the liquid composition polymerizes to form a first coating on the tooth. A second portion of the liquid composition is applied to the first coating, and air is substantially immediately conveyed to the second portion of the liquid composition. Light is then impinged on the first and second portions of the liquid composition whereby at least a portion of the second portion of the composition polymerizes to form a treated tooth surface adapted to retain a restorative material at a clinical retention rate of at least 98 percent with acceptable marginal integrity.

A biologically compatible adhesive dental primer that is shelf stable as a single component adhesive and includes a mixture of an adhesive promoting and polymerizable monomer system having a free radical polymerizable monomer or prepolymer having ethylenic unsaturation and a phosphorus containing adhesion promoter which is free from halogen atoms bonded directly to a phosphorus atom, and optionally a free radical polymerization catalyst, and an accelerator for the catalyst.
