Methods of on-line control of molecular weight in continuous solid state polymerization processes. The solid state polymerization process can be a polyester process or to a polyamide process, and more specifically a poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) or a poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT) or a nylon 6,6 continuous solid-state polymerization (SSP) process. An in-line viscometer melts and measures the molecular weight of the SSP resin and adjusts one or more of the process variables, i.e. reactor time, inert gas purity and inert gas temperature to maintain a constant resin molecular weight.

On-line control of molecular weight in continuous solid state polymerization processes

The present invention relates to a process for producing PET based on titanium catalyst having acceptable properties for resin used in the production of bottles for beverages. More particularly the invention relates to a process in which the incoming pre-polymer temperature is higher than the final outlet temperature in the final melt phase polycondensation reactor.

Polyester polymerization process

The present invention is a process for recycling colored polyester. More specifically, colored polyester for recycling is depolymerized by the addition of glycol to form the monomer BHET. The BHET is contacted with activated carbon to remove some colorant. The remaining colorant is extracted with water, alcohol, or glycol to produce white, purified BHET. The white, purified BHET is separated from the extraction solvent (water, alcohol, or glycol) by filtering, decanting, or centrifuging, for example. The purified BHET monomer can be polymerized to polyethylene terephthalate meeting food contact specifications, using known polymerization processes.

Process for recycling polyester materials

An absorbent article having a bodyside liner includes a hydrophilic lotion formulation on the outer bodyfacing surface thereof. The hydrophilic lotion formulation comprises from about 10 to about 90 weight percent of a hydrophilic solvent, from about 5 to about 90 weight percent of a high molecular weight polyethylene glycol, and from about 0 to about 60 weight percent of a fatty alcohol. The hydrophilic lotion formulation has a reduced adverse effect on the absorbent and liquid uptake properties of the liner and the absorbent body when compared to conventional lipophilic or hydrophobic lotion formulations. The hydrophilic lotion formulation acts as a lubricant to reduce the abrasion of the skin caused by the liner and also transfers to the skin to provide improved skin health.

An absorbent article includes a vapor permeable backsheet, a liquid permeable topsheet positioned in facing relation with the backsheet; and an absorbent body located between the backsheet and the topsheet. The absorbent body may include multiple zones of high air permeability. The absorbent article may also include a ventilation layer between the absorbent body and the backsheet and a surge management layer between the absorbent body and the topsheet. The article exhibits improved air exchange within the article during use. As a result, the article maintains the temperature and exhibits substantially reduced levels of hydration of the wearer's skin when in use which renders the skin less susceptible to the viability of microorganisms. The absorbent article may further include lotion formulations and/or treatment compositions thereon for maintaining or improving skin health.

Absorbent article which maintains or improves skin health

A method and device for monitoring and optionally controlling the absolute inventory of a dynamic fluid in a vessel having at least one agitator with a rotatable shaft extending in an essentially horizontal direction, wherein there is a resultant force acting on the agitator in an essentially vertical direction in relation to the shaft and a relationship exists between the absolute inventory and the force acting on the agitator in the essentially vertical direction. The method comprises determining a correlation between the vessel absolute inventory and resultant force, measuring the resultant force, and thereby determining a relative absolute inventory within the vessel. The determined absolute inventory value may then be used as a control variable for use in controlling the absolute inventory within the vessel.

Absolute inventory control by radial force measurement

A pressure process for preparing a hydroxyalkyl ester monomer and oligomer that can be used to prepare a polyester such as polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is disclosed. The process includes the steps of reacting, by ethoxylation, dicarboxylic acid and alkylene oxide in the presence of a compressed gas medium to form a specified mixture of monohydroxyalkyl ester and bishydroxyalkyl ester. The reaction pressure is such that the density of the gas medium is greater than or equal to half the critical density of the compressed gas medium. The mole ratio of the alkylene oxide to the dicarboxylic acid is less than about 2:1, and preferably 1.1:1.2. The DP of all reaction products is less than 5. The reactant product may be polymerized into a polyester. The process may optionally employ catalysts such as amines or amino acids. The compressed gas medium can be a solvent and an optional cosolvent. The temperature of reaction is from about 100&deg; C. to 240&deg; C. at a pressure of 50-5000 psi.

A surfactant and skin wellness composition useful for imparting durability and wettability to a substrate as well as skin wellness, includes a first surfactant in combination with aloe vera. The first surfactant includes a compound selected from ethoxylated hydrogenated fatty oils, monosaccharides, monosaccharide derivatives, polysaccharides, polysaccharide derivatives, and combinations thereof. Other ingredients can also be added. The composition can be applied as an aqueous emulsion to a substrate such as a nonwoven web, to provide enhanced wettability combined with skin enhancement to the wearer.

Method and composition for treating substrates for wettability and skin wellness

An absorbent article having a bodyside liner includes a lotion formulation on the outer bodyfacing surface thereof. The lotion formulation comprises from about 5 to about 95 weight percent of an emollient, from about 5 to about 95 weight percent of a wax, and, optionally, from about 0.1 to about 25 weight percent of a viscosity enhancer. The lotion formulation has a reduced level of migration which leads to improved transfer to the skin. The lotion formulation acts as a lubricant to reduce the abrasion of the skin caused by the liner and also transfers to the skin to provide improved skin health.

The article includes a backsheet member (30), a liquid permeable topsheet layer (28), and an absorbent body (32) sandwiched between the topsheet layer (28) and backsheet member (30). The backsheet member includes an air permeable, polymer sheet layer (96), and a first, outward nonwoven fibrous web (94) attached to or otherwise operatively joined with a major facing surface (78) of the polymer sheet layer (96) at a plurality of individual, spaced apart thermal bonds (98). The outward nonwoven web (94) includes a plurality of fibers having substantially unbonded lengths which extend substantially continuously between at least an adjacent pair of the bonds, and the substantially unbonded fiber lengths are arched away from an outward surface of the thermal bonds by arch heights (60) which provides a distinctive embossing element depth value. In addition, the fibers of the outward nonwoven web can have a selected denier, and the outward nonwoven web (94) can have a selected basis weight.
