A telecommunications network () comprises a group call service server () which facilitates a group call over a radio interface () between different user equipment units () in a defined group within the telecommunications network. The group call service server () receives a floor request from a requesting user equipment unit () included in the group, and handles the floor request based on a media type associated with the floor request. In conjunction with such handling, in one aspect of its operation the group call service server prioritizes the floor request from the user equipment unit based on the media type (e.g., based on delay sensitivity of the media type associated with the floor request). In one example implementation, the group call service server comprises a queue () and a floor request handler (). The group call service server queues the floor request from the requesting user equipment in the queue (); the floor request handler () prioritizes the floor request within the queue based on the media type. In a specific example implementation, the group call service is Push-to-Talk over Cellular (PoC) and the group call service server comprises PoC server situated in a service network. Also provided are a group call service which handles the floor request based on a media type, and a message format for the floor request itself.

Method and system for floor control for group call telecommunications services

A network element included in a telecommunication system contains several nodes (1226, 1232, 1234, 1236, 1238) which are included in a system internal to this network element and provides internal network element functions in an internal bearer service network, and internal resources in the form of hardware and software which are used for performing the internal network element functions. The network element can offer an operations system a 'white box' view, implying that internal resources are available to this operations system, enabling it to use managed objects representing the internal resources in order to manage the resources according to a second management information model in connection with using them for performing internal network element functions.

Telecommunication system

It furthermore contains system resources and management information software. This software includes application specific management information and management information for system resources common to the applications, and is available to an operations system for managing the system resources when they are to be used. All of said management information is organized, from the point of view of naming, in several application specific management information bases each in the form of a respective hierarchical tree structure (1310, 1312).
