Embodiments of the present invention provide an AMOLED device having a non-circular base substrate made of crystalline silicon and doped with an impurity, a crystalline silicon layer over the base substrate, multiple pre-defined anode regions having a high pre-defined work-function and made of one or more electrically conductive materials, one or more functional organic layers capable of generating and emitting light and arranged in a predefined pattern of a plurality of emitters. Each emitter has one-to-one mapping to each anode region. The AMOLED device also includes one or more cathode regions adjacent to the one or more functional organic layers. The one or more cathode regions are capable of transmitting the light and have a low pre-defined work-function. The AMOLED device also includes an encapsulation.

Structure of an organic device, method and apparatus for patterning the same

A method for patterning an organic device includes providing a patterned product substrate and pre-defined patterned source substrate. The product substrate has a product principal surface having destination regions. The source substrate has a source principal surface having optically reflecting regions and absorbing regions arranged adjacent to each other. The source principal surface includes plurality of source regions defined at the reflecting regions. The plurality of source regions has organic materials disposed thereon. The product principal surface and the source principal surface are aligned such that each of the plurality of source regions is aligned to exactly one destination region. At least one of the product principal surface and the source principal surface includes support(s) to maintain a substantially uniform gap between them. Then temperature of the source substrate is raised above the sublimation temperature of the organic materials to redeposit at a nearest destination region.

Method and apparatus for patterning an organic device

A method for making a shadow mask array is taught. Producing a plurality of shadow mask sections; inspecting the plurality of shadow mask sections to determine which shadow mask sections are acceptable as meeting predetermined criteria; positioning a predetermined number of the acceptable mask sections into predetermined locations relative to one another to form a mask section array thereby distributing any error in individual mask sections across the mask section array; and attaching the individual mask sections of the mask section array to a support structure. The support structure allows for expansion and/or contraction of the individual mask sections of the mask section array while maintaining relative positioning of the individual shadow mask section in the shadow mask array. The support structure further allows for compliance of the shadow mask array in a direction normal to the plane of the shadow mask array thereby allowing for a substantially planar interface between the shadow mask array and a substrate to be coated.

A method for making an electrode over a light emissive layer in an organic light emitting device includes providing the organic light emitting device into a vacuum chamber having a receptacle for vaporizing material. Heating the receptacle to evaporate material placed in the receptacle for deposition onto the light emissive layer to form the electrode, and a shutter, which when open, permits evaporated material from the heated receptacle to deposit onto the light emissive layer. The method also includes selectively feeding an elongated member made of material to be evaporated into the heated receptacle when the electrode is to be formed and removing such material from such heated receptacle when such electrode is not to be formed.

The present invention relates to an optoelectronic integrated circuit which includes a body of a group III-V semiconductor material containing a laser diode, a photodiode and/or field effect transistors. The body includes isolation regions extending partially therethrough which electrically isolate the laser diode from the photodiode and the field effect transistors. However, the isolation regions are at least partially transparent to light so as to allow some of the light generated by the laser diode to reach the photodiode. The laser diode, photodiode and/or field effect transistors are electrically connected by conductive patterns on the body so as to form a desired circuit for controlling the laser diode. The body defines a laser diode having a multiple quantum well active layer sandwiched between two cladding layers. The photodiode may also be formed by the active layer and cladding layers or can be formed by filling a trench in the body with a semiconductor material. The field effect transistor is formed in an insulated cap layer of undoped gallium arsenide on one of the cladding layers.
