An acoustic device with a manifold architecture is described. The acoustic device includes a primary waveguide and a manifold. The primary waveguide has a first end, coupled to an acoustic sensor, and a second end, a port open to a local area. The port receives airflow from the local area that includes sound pressure waves from a sound source and turbulent pressure waves. The sound pressure waves and a first portion of the turbulent pressure waves are detected by the acoustic sensor. The manifold includes a plurality of waveguides that are coupled to a portion of the primary waveguide between the first end and second end. The plurality of waveguides has openings to the local area. The manifold vents a second portion of the turbulent pressure waves through the openings, and the second portion of the turbulent pressure waves is larger than the first portion of the turbulent pressure waves.

Manifold architecture for wind noise abatement

The disclosure is generally directed to a system for reducing wind noise. A system includes one or more processors coupled to a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium having instructions encoded thereon that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to obtain signals respectively generated from two or more microphones during a time period, the signals representing acoustic energy detected by the two or more microphones during the time period, determine a coherence between the signals, and determine a filter based on the coherence. The filter is configured to reduce wind noise in one or more of the signals.

Systems and methods for reducing wind noise

An acoustic sensor includes port architecture designed to mitigate wind noise. The acoustic sensor includes a primary waveguide having two ports open to a local area surrounding the acoustic sensor. One opening of a secondary waveguide is coupled to portion of the primary waveguide, with another opening of the secondary waveguide coupled to a microphone. The secondary waveguide has a smaller cross-section than the primary waveguide. Hence, airflow is directed from a port of the primary waveguide to the other port of the primary waveguide and back into the local area, bypassing the microphone.

Microphone port architecture for mitigating wind noise

An ear-plug assembly presents audio content to an ear canal of a user. The audio content may be based in part on sound in a local area surrounding the user. The ear-plug assembly detects, via one or more acoustic sensors, sound in the area around the user. The sound waves travel through an aperture in a body of the ear-plug assembly and are propagated to a waveguide to the one or more acoustic sensors. The ear-plug assembly processes the detected sound data in a controller, which instructs a speaker assembly to present audio content based in part on the detected sound data. The detected sounds may be amplified, attenuated, filtered, and/or augmented when presented by the speaker assembly.
