An elevator cab ceiling includes an upper ceiling panel and a lower ceiling panel that are vertically spaced apart from each other with an intermediate ceiling cavity between them. An inlet duct is associated with the upper ceiling panel and an outlet duct is associated with the lower ceiling panel. The inlet and outlet ducts are horizontally spaced apart from each other and are fluidly connected to each other through the intermediate ceiling cavity to form a ventilation path. This separation of inlet and outlet ducts by an intermediate ceiling cavity reduces airborne noise transmissions that enter an elevator cab through the ventilation path. In one example, at least one baffle is installed within the intermediate ceiling cavity between the inlet and outlet ducts to interrupt a flow between the inlet and outlet to further reduce any transmitted noise.

A device () for reducing noise levels in passenger conveyor systems () at least partially obstructs spacing () at the interface between two steps () to allow for relative movement between one step and the next. A sound transmission reducing member () at least partially obstructs a sound pathway that includes the spacing to reduce the transmission of noise through the spacing. The sound transmission reducing member in one example is a barrier that partially blocks the interface, while in another, it extends completely across the interface. Additionally, sound absorbing material () may be secured to the underside of the steps in order to further reduce sound transmission toward the passengers and individuals near the conveyer.

An elevator load bearing assembly () includes a plurality of cords () within a jacket (). The jacket has a plurality of grooves () spaced along the length of the belt assembly. Each groove has a plurality of portions () aligned at an oblique angle (A, B) relative to a longitudinal axis () of the belt (). In one example, the grooves are separated such that there is no longitudinal overlap between adjacent grooves. In another example, transitions () between the obliquely aligned portions are at different longitudinal positions on the belt. Another example includes a combination of the different longitudinal positions and the non-overlapping groove placement.

An escalator step () includes a sound barrier material () covering over at least a portion of an inner surface () of a tread portion() and an inner surface () of a rise portion (). In one example, the sound barrier material () comprises a sheet of vinyl. The sound barrier material () reduces noise radiation from the step () toward a cavity () within a passenger conveyor support structure () and reduces noise emanations from the cavity () through the steps (). Several embodiments for securing the sound barrier material () in place are disclosed.
