Disclosed herein are a surgical system for patella tracking and a method for selecting a properly-sized patellar implant utilizing the same. The surgical system may include first and second trackers and a patellar tracking system. The first tracker may be configured to contact an unresected or a resected patella, and the second tracker may be configured to contact a bone. The patellar tracking system may be configured to track the first and second trackers during patellar flexion and extension to generate patellar range of motion and patellar trial range of motion. A method for selecting a patellar implant may utilize the first and second trackers and the patellar tracking system.

Patella tracking

A system and method of diagnosing tissue integrity related to a joint of a patient may include imaging a first bone of the joint of the patient, determining a bone density profile of the first bone based on results of the imaging step, comparing the bone density profile of the first bone to at least one reference bone density profile of a reference first bone, and predicting an integrity of a tissue with respect to the first bone based on the comparison. The first bone may be a tibia and the bone density profile of the tibia may include a bone density profile of a sulcus of a medial tibial condyle of the tibia. The tissue may be an anterior cruciate ligament ('ACL') and the predicting step may include predicting the integrity of both an anteromedial bundle and a posterolateral bundle of the ACL.

System and method for predicting tissue integrity

A bone implant includes at least one bone-engaging surface designed to mate with an implant-engaging surface of a bone. In the preferred embodiment, the bone-engaging surface of the implant includes a wave pattern comprising at least one peak extending in a proximal direction or at least one valley extending in a distal direction. The implant-engaging surface of the bone also includes a matching wave pattern having at least one peak and valley. Upon mating the engaging surfaces, a bone-implant interface may be created wherein the peaks and valleys of the wave patterns are aligned. As a result, there is good surface contact area at the bone-implant interface which helps prevent loosening or rotating of the implant.

A system includes a robotic device and a processing circuit programmed to enable planning of a placement of an implant relative to a bone based on bone densities of a plurality of regions of the bone, generate a control object based on the placement of the implant, and control the robotic device using the control object.

Systems and methods for surgical planning based on bone density

A method of generating a correction plan for a knee of a patient includes obtaining a ratio of reference bone density to reference ligament tension in a reference population. A bone of the knee of the patient may be imaged. From the image of the bone, a first dataset may be determined including at least one site of ligament attachment and existing dwell points of a medial femoral condyle and lateral femoral condyle of the patient on a tibia of the patient. Desired positions of contact in three dimensions of the femoral condyles of the patient with the tibia of the patient may be obtained by determining a relationship in which a ratio of bone density to ligament tension of the patient is substantially equal to the ratio of reference bone density to reference ligament tension.

Virtual ligament balancing

In some embodiments, the present disclosure relates to a method of securing an implant into a body of a patient. Initially, the implant is placed into the body of the patient. Then, an impactor tool is used to apply a force to the implant. Subsequent to the application of force to the implant, a portion of an impaction pad on an end of the impactor tool is monitored. When the portion is observed to be deformed, the application of force onto the implant is discontinued.

A cutting system includes a material removal tool having a fluid nozzle with an adjustable diameter, a workpiece including a target shape for removal, and a controller operable to adjust the diameter of the nozzle to vary fluid flow and control an amount of material removed by the material removal tool. The controller is adapted to adjust the nozzle to vary the fluid flow based on a position of the nozzle and workpiece data preoperatively obtained from the workpiece via a continuous feedback loop. A method of cutting a bone is also provided.

Robotically controlled water jet cutting

Embodiments related to a method is described. The method comprises receiving an image file of a region of interest of an anatomy of a living organism, analyzing the image file and extracting image coordinates and density information of a plurality of points in the image file, training a neural network using collective information available in a database, registering the region of interest of the anatomy as a virtual version using an input from the neural network, and subsequently training the neural network using a user input from a user and the collective information available in the database. The collective information is recorded in the database with respect to a plurality of clusters of different physiological states of the living organism. The method further comprises performing a treatment on the region of interest. In an embodiment, the treatment is performed using the input from the neural network.

Described herein is a bone implant including at least one bone-engaging surface designed to mate with an implant-engaging surface of a bone. A method of patient specific treatment planning is described herein. The method includes receiving an image file of a region of interest of an anatomy; extracting co-ordinates information and density information of a plurality of points of an image of the image file; pre-training a neural network based on the co-ordinates information, the density information and collective information of a database; performing at least one of a virtual action, and a treatment, via a user, on the region of interest based on collective information in the database; and training the neural network based on a user input, and the collective information from the database. The collective information comprises a plurality of clusters of different physiological states. The plurality of clusters comprises a plurality of sub-clusters. The virtual action and the treatment are performed through at least one of a virtual reality and an augmented reality.
