A method for modifying the mechanical and surface properties of a component. The method involves: removably attaching a component to at least one component support that is located within a vibratory trough of a component treatment apparatus, the at least one component support being a support shaft upon which the component is removably mountable within the vibratory trough; supplying the vibratory trough with treatment media; moving the component support or the vibratory trough so that the component is immersed into the treatment media; vibrating the vibratory trough to provide a substantially uniform surface treatment of the component, the vibratory trough being movable by at least one trough vibrating mechanism whose actuation is controlled by a controller in response to signals received from at least one sensor located on or within the vibratory trough; removing the component from the treatment media; and detaching the component from the component support.

Component treatment method and apparatus

A method and apparatus for vibro-treating an object. The method includes the steps of controlling a relative displacement between a vibro-treating media and a surface area of the object to provide a vibro-treating effect; and, controlling movement of the object relative to a surface of the vibro-treating media while controlling relative displacement between the vibro-treating media and the surface area of the object, according to one or more pre-determined conditions, to provide a substantially even vibro-treating condition over the surface area of the object.

The present invention describes a rolling tool device for compression rolling of, in particular, blade elements of a rotor area of a jet engine provided with a tool carrier. The tool carrier is connectable to a carrier spindle. Furthermore, two pliers-type bodies are rotatably connected to the tool carrier. The pliers-type bodies are each provided with a rolling area, with a distance between the rolling areas being variable in dependence of the rotary movement of the pliers-type bodies. The present invention describes a method and an apparatus for surface strengthening and/or smoothing of an integrally bladed rotor area of a jet engine. The rotor area can be connected to a device and held by the latter inside the container in a position equivalent to an at least approximately horizontal orientation of a rotary axis of the rotor area. A space delimited by the container and the rotor area between a surface of the rotor area and that surface of the container facing the rotor area is filled at least partially with strengthening and/or smoothing elements. A relative movement is generated between the surface of the rotor area and the strengthening and/or smoothing elements. The surface region of the rotor area to be strengthened and/or smoothed is at a distance from the surface of the container facing the rotor area.

Method and apparatus for surface strengthening and/or smoothing of an integrally bladed rotor area of a jet engine

For surface strengthening of blisk blades, a blade area of the blisk is completely inserted into a water bath (), and a multitude of high-pressure water jets are injected into the water bath which are directed bilaterally and essentially vertically&#x2014;and opposite to each other&#x2014;to both blade sides. Cavitation bubbles imploding near the blade surface that are generated in the water bath on the periphery of the high-pressure water jets to produce micro jets upon imploding, exerting an effect on the blade surface, creating plastically formed depressions without sharp edges. An apparatus for performing the method includes a container (), a jetting unit () having parallel spaced apart water-jet tubes () with nozzle openings connected to a high-pressure water conduit () to produce the high-pressure water jets.
