A transmitter coil is located at the muzzle of a firing weapon downstream of a muzzle velocity measuring device as viewed in the flight direction of a projectile after firing. The transmitter coil transmits a digital adjustment signal for inductively adjusting in the projectile during its passage through the transmitter coil, a counter for starting a delayed action fuze in the projectile. The individual digital adjustment signals are constituted by double pulses and a predetermined number such as at least 12 double pulses are transmitted by the transmitter coil to the receiver coil in the projectile. Electronic switches are utilized for controlling the operation of the transmitter coil. A filtering device is connected in circuit with the receiver coil and the counter in the projectile for eliminating interfering pulses which originate from the muzzle velocity measuring device.

The apparatus for measuring the muzzle velocity V.sub.0 of a projectile fired from a weapon enables eliminating the effects of interfering magnetic fields, particularly that of the terrestrial magnetic field. For this purpose the apparatus comprises a shielding arrangement for shielding or screening interfering magnetic fields. Such measuring apparatus contains two induction coils and a support for the attachment thereof which is made of a material of low magnetic permeability. For shielding or screening the interfering magnetic fields there is used a shielding arrangement made of a material of high magnetic permeability. The apparatus is simultaneously constructed as a muzzle brake and is suitable for measuring the muzzle velocity of sabot projectiles.

In order to be able to carry out accurate measurements with a V.sub.0 -measurement device, it is important that the desired distance between the two measurement coils of the measurement device be accurately maintained. It has been found that it does not suffice to accurately measure the distance between the end faces of the two measurement coils, since the magnetic field foci of individual measurement coils do not always have the same spacing from the end surfaces. The distance between the magnetic field foci of both measuring coils is measured and is employed for determining the muzzle or initial velocity V.sub.0.

A circuit for supplying clock or timing pulses to a projectile fuze, comprising an astable multivibrator possessing field-effect transistors and a supply capacitor for controlling and supplying the multivibrator. Between the multivibrator and the supply capacitor there is connected in circuit a resistor and parallel to said resistor there is connected a trimmer capacitor for stabilizing the frequency of the clock pulses.

A method of, and apparatus for, adjusting a projectile fuze after firing the projectile out of a weapon, wherein information is transmitted inductively from a transmitter mounted at the weapon to a receiver located in the projectile fuze. The passage of the projectile through a first element triggers the transmission of pertinent information and after such passage the information is computed and stored. Upon passage of the projectile through a second element the information is transmitted in the form of pulses to the receiver and the frequency of the pulses is coordinated to the time available during passage of the projectile so that all information can be transmitted within this time.
