A printing unit having at least one press unit, the, or each, press unit having at least one form cylinder, a transfer cylinder, an inking unit and preferably a damping unit, and having at least one imaging device for imaging and/or de-imaging a rewritable and erasable printing form positioned on the form cylinder. The inking unit, if appropriate together with the damping unit, can be pivoted with respect to a form cylinder from a printing position into a rest position. The imaging device can be pivoted with respect to the form cylinder from an imaging position into a rest position. The imaging device is pivoted into a rest position when the inking unit and, if appropriate, damping unit is pivoted into the printing position and, when the imaging device is pivoted into the imaging position, the inking unit and, if appropriate, the damping unit is pivoted into a rest position.

The invention provides an apparatus for the mounting and/or demounting of at least two printing sleeves outside a printing unit of a printing machine. The printing sleeves include an outer printing sleeve forming a printing surface and an inner printing sleeve providing diameter compensation between the outer printing sleeve and an impression cylinder of the printing machine. The apparatus having a reception device onto which an inner printing sleeve can be pushed for mounting the two printing sleeves. The apparatus having at least one compressed-air device for facilitating the fixing of the inner printing sleeve on the reception device and for conducting compressed air through orifices assigned to the inner printing sleeve in order thereby to make it possible for an outer printing sleeve to be pushed more easily onto the inner printing sleeve.

A second work station follows the printing units. At least one lifting device is assigned to the printing units for transporting printing unit modules. An apparatus for transporting printing sleeves is provided. The transport apparatus includes a housing with a bottom wall, a plurality of side walls, and at least one cover. A plurality of reception devices are mounted in the housing. Each reception device receives a printing sleeve in a vertically oriented transport position with a longitudinal mid-axes of the respective printing sleeve extending vertically. Each reception device is movable out of the housing into an outside position when the at least one cover of the housing is open. An aligning apparatus for heavy loads, in particular a printing unit, includes at least one support plate, which is rotatably mounted on a base plate screwed to an erection surface and can be positioned on the base plate with regard to its horizontal position by means of adjusting screws. Each support plate interacts with a vertical adjusting screw which is provided for adjusting the vertical position of the printing unit and can be fixed to the printing unit, each vertical adjusting screw being designed with a spherical end which is supported on the plate in a spherical recess designed with little play or as a locating fit.

In order to provide a rotary printing machine for direct printing, in which the printing-assembly cylinders are guided in a stable manner by means of a cost-effective device, the forme cylinder and the impression cylinder of a printing assembly are mounted, adjustably in terms of their mutual spacing, in side walls. At least one of the two cylinders is mounted on both sides in slides movable on straight guide elements which are arranged in each case on at least one of two opposite panels of an aperture in the side walls.

In order to provide a rotary printing machine for direct printing, in which the printing-assembly cylinders are arranged in a space-saving way, there is arranged in side walls at least one double printing assembly containing two form cylinders which are located one above the other, each having its own drive motor and between which at least one impression cylinder is arranged, a web being printable between a form cylinder and an impression cylinder. Each form cylinder and the impression cylinder cooperating with the latter are mounted, adjustably in terms of their mutual spacing, in side walls of the printing unit. For this purpose, the adjustable cylinders are mounted on both sides in slides which are moveable on guide elements fastened to the side walls.

In order to provide a stand of a printing unit of a rotary printing machine, said stand being capable of being produced cost-effectively and having high inherent rigidity, a left-hand and a right-hand side wall are placed onto a bottom plate and screwed to the latter and are also provided with a cover plate, the cover plate resting with first locating faces on the side walls and with second locating faces against the side walls, the cover plate being screwed to the side walls at all the locating faces.
