An applicator for applying patches to a traveling web, such as in a bag forming machine, includes a vacuum cylinder with an outer perforated sleeve, an inner slotted sleeve and a stationary core with shaped pressure chambers for applying patches cut from a roll to the traveling web. Cutting blades are included in the perforate outer sleeve to sever patch material from a roll as the vacuum cylinder rotates. The outer perforate sleeve is replaceable with sleeves of different outside diameters to accommodate different patch locations.

Apparatus for automatically assembling hands or stacks of generally flat material such as bags or the like into vertically aligned bundles for wrapping or banding in which the stacks to be assembled are conveyed into an accumulating area and are individually elevated by a lifting mechanism into a gathering frame for forming into bundles or bales of desired height.

Apparatus and process for continuously and repetitively producing grocery sacks from a thermoplastic web at high speed, including particularly a folding operation involving applying grasping action to bag blanks formed from a heat sealed gusseted flattened tubular web of, e.g., high density polyethylene at the upper and lower portions thereof, respectively, causing said portions to be forwarded at differential longitudinal speeds whereby a rough folded bag bottom is formed. Preferably, the web is flexed as by introduction of air to the bag blank or sack to release the respective web faces and facilitate folding. A complete apparatus includes sealing, cutting, folding and pressing means and may incorporate printing and like ancillary features.
