Media roll management

A media for digital high speed inkjet web press printing has a CD residual tensile energy absorption index greater than 300 J/Kg. The media includes a paper base having a MD/CD tensile stiffness index ratio of less than 2.0 and a tensile energy absorption index of greater than 500 J/Kg. The paper base includes a mixture of fibers having a softwood fiber to hardwood fiber ratio within a range of 3 to 7 to 7 to 1, an internal starch having a cationic starch to fiber ratio greater than 1.0%, and a filler within a range of about 1.0% to about 12.0% of paper base weight. The media further includes an image receiving coating on a side of the paper base.

Media used in digital high speed inkjet web press printing

A printed article with metallic appearance that includes a printable media on which a printed feature is formed with an ink composition. Said ink composition contains a dispersion of metal or metal oxide particles having an average particle size in the range of about 3 to about 180 nm. The media is a textured printable media containing a supporting substrate and an ink-absorbing layer with pore diameters that are smaller than the size of the metal or metal oxide particles. Said ink composition forms, onto the textured printable media, a printed feature that exhibits a metallic appearance.

A system and method for controlling image transfer device operations through use of sensed indicia disposed on at least one edge of the image transfer medium. A signal responsive to the sensed indicia is produced and transferred to a control signal. The control signal is recognizable by the image transfer device for controlling print operations, thereby configuring the device for the specific media being utilized. In a preferred embodiment of the invention indicia are placed on the four edges of the media. The indicia can be in the form of a bar code encoding such information as brand, media type, orientation, and size. Preferably the indicia include nonvisible, fluorescing ink.

System and method for controlling an image transfer device

An inkjet printer priming system having a variable volume chamber in a closed fluid system for each print head, the volume of said variable volume chamber being varied by manual actuation of a button-like surface identified as priming a particular print head, said actuatable surface being coupled to a movable wall incorporated in said variable volume chamber, said movable wall being biased to a position maximizing the volume of said variable volume chamber and said priming system providing tactile and audio feedback to an operator actuating said surface indicating proper priming functions.
