Some aspects of what is described here relate to seismic profiling techniques. A seismic excitation is generated in a first directional section of a first wellbore in a subterranean region. Seismic responses associated with the seismic excitation are detected in directional sections of a plurality of other wellbores in the subterranean region. A fracture treatment of the subterranean region is analyzed based on the seismic responses. In some instances, a multi-dimensional seismic velocity model of the subterranean region is generated based on the seismic responses.

Various embodiments include apparatus and methods to measure a parameter of interest using a fiber optic cable. The parameters can be provided by a process that provides for multiplexed or distributed measurements. A multiplexed or a distributed architecture can include acoustic sensor units placed selectively along an optical fiber such that the acoustic sensor units effectively modulate the optical fiber with information regarding a parameter to provide the information to an interrogator coupled to the optical fiber that is separate from the acoustic sensor units.

An optical waveguide pumping method can include pumping a liquid fluid through a conduit, thereby pumping an optical waveguide into the conduit, and operating a fluid recovery device, so that fluid pressure in the conduit is less than a vapor pressure of the fluid and/or fluid temperature in the conduit is reduced from above a boiling point temperature of the fluid to below the boiling point temperature of the fluid. An optical waveguide pumping system can include a pump which pumps a liquid fluid into a conduit and thereby pumps an optical waveguide into the conduit, and a fluid recovery device connected to the conduit. The fluid recovery device reduces fluid pressure in the conduit to below a vapor pressure of the fluid and/or reduces fluid temperature in the conduit from above a boiling point temperature of the fluid to below the boiling point temperature of the fluid.

Detecting and correcting unintended fluid flow between subterranean zones. At least some of the illustrative embodiments are methods including: injecting a first fluid into a subterranean zone, the injecting by way of a first borehole; making a reading indicative of surface deformation; identifying, based on the reading indicative of surface deformation, a flow path for a second fluid out of the subterranean zone; placing a compound into the flow path, the compound reduces the flow of the second fluid through the flow path.

At least some of the illustrative embodiments are methods that include: injecting a first fluid into a subterranean zone, the injecting by way of a first borehole; making a reading indicative of surface deformation; identifying, based on the surface deformation reading, a flow path for a second fluid out of the subterranean zone; drilling a second borehole that intersects the flow path; and placing a sealing compound into the flow path by way of the second borehole, the sealing compound reduces the flow of the second fluid through the flow path.

An apparatus for measuring forces acting on a tubing string within a wellbore, comprising a body including a central passage and an internal void radially offset from the central passage. End portions extending from the body each include an internal passage and an interface configured to detachably couple to the tubing string for conveyance within the wellbore. A clamp is detachably coupled to one end portion, and first sensors coupled to the clamp are configured to detect strain induced by forces acting on the tubing string. At least one second sensor coupled to the body is configured to detect pressure and temperature within the wellbore. A memory device coupled to the body within the internal void is configured to log measurements detected by the first and second sensors. An electrical power supply coupled to the body within the internal void is configured to provide electrical power to the memory device.
