The present invention relates to polyoxometalate-coated alumina trihydrate dispersants prepared by combining a polyaluminum chloride having certain characteristics with alumina trihydrate particles. Such dispersants are useful for forming cationic alumina trihydrate slurries, which can be mixed with titanium dioxide to produce stable cationic slurry blends useful in paper, paper-board, and paint (coatings) applications. The dispersants are also useful for preparing cationic titanium dioxide slurries.

Cationic polyoxometalate-coated alumina trihydrate dispersants

The present invention relates to Aluminum trihydrate slurries comprising aluminum trihydrate particles, an acrylic dispersant, citric acid, synthetic hectorite clay, optionally a compound to adjust pH, a biocide and water. These slurries may be mixed with titanium dioxide slurries to produce a stable slurry blends useful in paper and paper-board applications.

Aluminum trihydrate containing slurries

A composition containing cationic pigment particles includes titanium dioxide particles to which are bound a first water-soluble cationic polymer and cationic polymer latex particles. In some embodiments the cationic latex is made by treating an anionic latex with a second water-soluble cationic polymer, which may be the same as or different from the first water-soluble cationic polymer. Process for coating alkyl ketene dimer on titanium dioxide

Titanium dioxide pigment prepared by the high pressure (e.g., 10-200 PSIG) oxidation of TiCl.sub.4 vapor is improved with respect to carbon black undertone, specific surface area, and gloss properties by the addition of a nucleant consisting essentially of a cesium substance which is present in the amount of about 8-2,000 parts per million, based on the weight of the TiO.sub.2. The foregoing process is also used wherein the residence time of the reactants in the mixing zone of the reactor is about 1-16 milliseconds.

TiO.sub.2 manufacturing process

The present invention relates to an improved chlorosulfonic acid (CSA) composition useful in making a high clarity sulfated salt of a C.sub.8-22 natural or synthetic predominantly straight chain aliphatic primary alcohol to a process for making the improved CSA composition and to improved CSA composition by the process. The CSA contains less than 1 weight percent sulfuric acid, less than 0.47 weight percent sulfur trioxide, less than 5 parts per million iron and less than 0.5 relative percent pyrosulfuryl chloride. The CSA process involves contacting the hydrogen chloride and sulfur trioxide at the point of reaction with from 0.75 to 1.5 weight percent sulfuric acid based on the stoichiometric rate of CSA produced from the sulfur trioxide with an excess of hydrogen chloride.
