A spinneret for extruding fibers includes a plate having a proximal surface and a distal surface. The spinneret includes a plurality of holes formed in the plate that extend between the proximal surface and the distal surface of the plate. The holes are spaced from one another, and each hole has a distal end that extends along a central axis. The spinneret has a plurality of contoured entrance zones formed in the proximal surface of the plate, whereby each contoured entrance zone is associated with one of the holes. Each contoured entrance zone extends distally from the proximal surface of the plate to a proximal end of the hole associated therewith. Each contoured entrance zone has substantially no planar or flat surfaces normal to the direction of the central axis of the distal end of the hole associated therewith.

A device for guiding a barbed suture into a braider preferably includes an elongated body having a proximal end, a distal end, and a longitudinal axis that extends from the proximal end to the distal end of the elongated body. The elongated body includes a first channel extending along the longitudinal axis of the elongated body and having a first distal opening at the distal end of the elongated body, whereby the said first channel has a first cross-sectional area, and a second channel extending along the longitudinal axis of the elongated body and having a second distal opening at the distal end of the elongated body, whereby the second channel has a second cross-sectional area that is different than the first cross-sectional area of the first channel. The device has an elongated slot extending along the longitudinal axis of the elongated body that interconnects the first and second channels. A barbed suture is loaded into the elongated body. The barbed suture includes an elongated core having a proximal end, a distal end, a barbed section including barbs extending outwardly from the elongated core, an end effector secured to the proximal end of the elongated core, and an interconnecting segment of the elongated core that is distal to the end effector and proximal to the barbed section. The barbed section of the barbed suture is disposed within the first channel, the end effector of the barbed suture is disposed within the second channel, and the interconnecting segment of said barbed suture extends through the elongated slot.

A system for dispensing a curable composition includes a dual barrel syringe including a first syringe barrel with a first plunger, and a second syringe barrel with a second plunger. A static mixer is connected with distal ends of the first and second syringe barrels. The first and second plungers are moveable toward the distal ends of the first and second syringe barrels for expelling first and second components of a curable composition from the distal ends of the barrels into the static mixer for mixing the components to form the curable composition. A flexible spreader connected with a distal end of the static mixer has a flat dispensing opening, and a plurality of channels extending to the flat dispensing opening to dispense the curable composition. A hot gas blower generates a hot gas stream flowing distally over the distal end of the flexible spreader for curing the curable composition.

A system for testing substrates includes a first elongated member including an outer end, an inner end, an outer surface that extends between the outer and inner ends, and a concave surface at the inner end, and a second elongated member including an outer end, an inner end, an outer surface that extends between the outer and inner ends of the second elongated member, and a convex surface at the inner end of the second elongated member that opposes the concave surface at the inner end of the first elongated member. A joint interconnects the first and second elongated members for guiding sliding movement of the concave surface of the first elongated member over the convex surface of the second elongated member between extended and flexed positions. A first clamping assembly is coupled with the first elongated member and at least one first clamping assembly spring normally urges the first clamping assembly away from the inner end of the first elongated member. A second clamping assembly is coupled with the second elongated member and at least one second clamping assembly spring normally urges the second clamping assembly away from the inner end of the second elongated member. A substrate overlying the outer surfaces of the first and second elongated members has a first end secured to the first clamping assembly and a second end secured to the second clamping assembly.

The present invention relates to circular anastomosis stapler and kits comprising reinforcing buttress materials and fixation tools that are slidably installed on the anvil shaft of such staplers which provides a temporary mechanical fixation of a reinforcing buttress to the anvil surface of a circular stapler during the insertion of the anvil into the tubular tissue. When the anvil, loaded with the buttress, is in the desired location, the fixation tool is pulled back along the anvil shaft and removed. The shaft is then connected to the stapling head and the stapling is performed. The present invention also relates to methods for using the kits and devices therein.
