A system for assisting patients in sorting and dispensing medication supplies comprises a storage tray having a number of storage compartments, and a communication system to identify a medication to be provided from a pill bottle and, based upon the identification and a known regime, automatically identify which compartments of the storage tray are to be filled with the identified medication from the pill bottle and perform the filling of the storage tray. In doing so, a patient can simply open and present any number of pill bottles to the system, and then allow the system to arrange the medication in the storage tray according to the known regimen. The regimen and regimen updates are communicated to the system by means of a wired or wireless transmission to the system from a remote location (e.g. pharmacy or doctor's office), by direct user input, or by reading such information from a barcode or similar information carrier affixed to the pill bottles.

System for sorting and dispensing oral medications

A system comprising a medication tray () and a docking station () for facilitating effective self-management of medication treatment by patients is provided. The medication tray () accepts medication filled containers () and mates with the docking station (). The medication tray () receives prescription data at the time the medication tray () accepts the medication filled containers (), which is then downloaded to the docking station (). The docking station () monitors and reports to third parties, via a network (), a patient's compliance with various medication treatment regimens. Medication containers () are provided with low bit tags () that provide container presence information to the docking station (). The docking station () provides visual and/or audio signals regarding prescription data to a patient. The docking station () can query patients and appliances regarding patient's medication usage and health status.

Medication adherence system

The invention relates to devices for continuously measuring the concentrations of more than one target analyte. Specifically, the devices comprise a plurality of analyte binding domains, with each domain being capable of specifically and reversibly binding to at least one of the target analytes. The devices further comprise a membrane surrounding these binding domains that is permeable to the target analytes. The devices convey binding information to a detector. The invention also relates to methods of using the devices, including monitoring chronic disease states in an individual.

Multianalyte sensor

A closed loop therapy system for controlling a concentration of a substance, such as blood glucose concentration, in the body of a user. The system and method employ a sensor system that measures a glucose level in the body, a controller that uses the measured glucose levels to generate an output that can be used to automatically or manually control an intradermal insulin infusion system to set a constant or time-varying profile of target blood glucose concentrations in a user, and then infuse an appropriate amount of insulin into the body of the user so as to reach and maintain the target values of the blood glucose concentration.

Systems and methods are provided for facilitating effective self-management of medication treatment by patients. A Smart Tray monitors and reports to third parties a patient's compliance with various medication treatment regimens. Medication containers are provided with electromagnetic tags that provide various information about medicament contained within a respective container. A Smart Tray is equipped with a processor and reader that interrogates each respective electromagnetic tag to identify medicament(s) contained within each container. Using the retrieved information, a Smart Tray provides visual and/or audio signals to a patient to remind the patient when and how much of various medicaments to take. A Smart Tray also monitors, via the reader, when a medication container is removed. A Smart Tray can communicate with one or more third parties, such as healthcare providers, pharmacies, and other suppliers of healthcare products and services via a computer network. In addition, a Smart Tray can communicate with various appliances and can modify medication regimens for particular medicaments in response to data received from various appliances.

Systems and methods for monitoring patient compliance with medication regimens

The present invention relates to kits and methods for conducting fluorescence based detection assays. The kits are configured in a manner to perform the method so as to reduce or eliminate interfering fluorescence signal.

Kit and method for fluorescence based detection assay

Single-stranded signal primers are modified by linkage to two dyes which form a donor/acceptor dye pair. The two dyes are positioned in sufficiently close spatial proximity on the signal primer that the fluorescence of the first dye is quenched by the second dye. The signal primer may further comprise a restriction endonuclease recognition site (RERS) between the two dyes. As the signal primer is initially single-stranded and remains single-stranded in the absence of target, the restriction endonuclease recognition site is not cleavable or nickable by the restriction endonuclease. In the presence of target, however, signal primer and the restriction endonuclease recognition site are rendered double-stranded and cleavable or nickable by the restriction endonuclease. Cleavage or nicking separates the two dyes and a change in fluorescence due to decreased quenching is detected as an indication of the presence of the target sequence or of target sequence amplification.

Detection of nucleic acids by fluorescence quenching

G-quartet structures have been found to be useful in fluorescence assays to detect a selected nucleic acid sequence. When oligonucleotides containing these structures are labeled with a donor fluorophore and an acceptor dye, the folding or interaction of the oligonucleotides in the G-quartet structure brings the donor-acceptor pair into close proximity, allowing an interaction between the two labels which results in quenching of donor fluorescence or a change in other fluorescence properties which are the result of the interaction of two dyes in close proximity. The G-quartet structure unfolds or is otherwise disrupted upon hybridization to its complementary sequence, increasing the distance between the two dye labels. This results in decreased donor quenching or a change in another proximity-related fluorescence parameter. The associated increase in donor fluorescence intensity or the change in another fluorescence parameter may be monitored as an indication of the presence of a selected nucleic acid sequence. Alternatively, in some cases a decrease in acceptor fluorescence may be monitored as an indication of the presence of the selected nucleic acid sequence when the acceptor is also a fluorophore. Related structures, such as the i-tetraplex, may also be useful in similar methods for detection of a selected nucleic acid sequence.
