An aircraft propulsion system is disclosed and includes a first gas turbine engine including a first input shaft driving a first gear system, a first fan driven by the first gear system, a first generator supported on the first input shaft and a fan drive electric motor providing a drive input to the first fan, a second gas turbine engine including a second input shaft driving a second gear system, a second fan driven by the second gear system, a second generator supported on the second input shaft and a second fan drive electric motor providing a drive input to the second fan and a controller controlling power output from each of the first and second generators and directing the power output between each of the first and second fan drive electric motors.

A repair system for gas turbine engine components includes a computer system configured to receive a set of measured parameters for each gas turbine engine component in a plurality of substantially identical gas turbine engine components, and determine a variation model based on the set of measured parameters wherein each of the gas turbine engine components is an as-run component and has been exposed to a substantially identical general wear pattern. The computer system includes at least one simulated engine model. The simulated engine model is configured to determine a predicted operation of each gas turbine engine component in the plurality of substantially identical gas turbine engine components. A correlation system is configured to correlate variations in the set of parameters for each of the gas turbine engine components in the plurality of substantially identical gas turbine engine components with a set of the predicted operations of each gas turbine engine component in the plurality of substantially identical gas turbine engine components, thereby generating a predictive model based on the variations. A repair module is configured to generate a repair formula based on the predictive model. The repair formula is configured to receive a set of measured parameters of an as-run gas turbine engine component and determine a suggested repair capable of repairing the as-run gas turbine engine component.

A gas turbine engine includes a propulsor having a plurality of blades, a compressor section including a first compressor and a second compressor aft of the first compressor. The first compressor includes at least one array of first variable guide vanes that control operation of the first compressor. A geared architecture is driven by the second turbine for rotating the propulsor.

A correlation system is configured to correlate variations in the set of parameters for each of the gas turbine engine components in the plurality of substantially identical gas turbine engine components with a set of the predicted operations of each gas turbine engine component in the plurality of substantially identical gas turbine engine components, thereby generating a predictive model based on the variations. A maintenance schedule module is configured determine a predictive model operable to determine a predicted wear pattern of a second single route component that is substantially identical to the gas turbine engine components.

A geared architecture for a gas turbine engine includes a central gear supported for rotation about the axis, a plurality of intermediate gears engaged with the central gear and a ring gear circumscribing the intermediate gears. A first flexible coupling is provided between an input shaft driven by a turbine section and the sun gear. The geared architecture provides a power density comprising a power measured in horsepower (HP) related to a weight of the geared architecture within a defined range that benefits overall engine weight and efficiency.

The parts include a polymeric substrate plated with one or more metal layers. The polymeric material of the polymeric substrate may be structurally reinforced with materials that may include carbon, metal, or glass. The polymeric substrate may also include a plurality of layers to form a composite layup structure.

A method of health monitoring of a gas turbine engine includes mounting a detection system configured to detect an aeromechanical damping characteristic of a row of airfoils of a gas turbine. An actual aeromechanical damping characteristic of the row of airfoils is measured with the detection system. An output signal is generated indicative of the actual aeromechanical damping characteristic of the row of airfoils. A current flutter characteristic is determined based on the output signal indicative of the actual aeromechanical damping characteristic of the row of airfoils. A method for qualifying a gas turbine engine component includes creating a first set of substantially identical gas turbine engine components via a uniform manufacturing procedure, determining a set of as-manufactured parameters of each gas turbine engine component in the first set, and determining a variance model of the first set. The variance model includes a representative parameter profile, which includes a plurality of component parameter profiles. The sum of each of the component parameter profiles is the representative parameter profile. The method also includes determining at least one predicted response models based at least in part on the variance model, identifying as-manufactured parameters of a second engine component, applying the as-manufactured parameters of the second engine component to the at least one predicted response models, thereby generating a predicted response output, and qualifying the second engine component for usage in at least one gas turbine engine corresponding to the at least one predicted response model.

A gas turbine engine includes a plurality of rotatable components housed within a main compressor section and a turbine section. A cooling system is connected to tap air from said main compressor section. A first tap is connected to a first heat exchanger. The first heat exchanger is connected to a cooling compressor for raising a pressure of the tapped air downstream of the first heat exchanger. A second heat exchanger is downstream of the cooling compressor, and a connection is downstream of the second heat exchanger for delivering air to a bearing compartment. A connection intermediate the cooling compressor and the second heat exchanger delivers cooling air to at least one of the rotatable components.

Disclosed is a flutter damper, including a chamber having an internal space, a movable diaphragm disposed at least partially within the chamber, the diaphragm separating the chamber into a first chamber and a second chamber, the second chamber forming an acoustic volume, wherein a size of the acoustic volume configures the chamber for peak acoustical energy absorption at a frequency range that is associated with one or more fan flutter modes, and a biasing member that moves the diaphragm responsive to a signal from an aircraft or engine electronic control (EEC) unit, wherein movement of the diaphragm increases or reduces the size of the acoustic volume of the second chamber.
