The present disclosure describes various devices and methods for the reconstruction or restoration of a metallic shield of a cable, which provide a holding feature for simplifying the installation of an electrically-conductive member on the metallic shield and improving the reliability of the connection. Both factory-supplied and field-installable holding features are described.

Devices and methods for connecting to a metallic shield of a cable

A new and improved separable loadbreak connector system capable of providing higher switching and fault close ratings by various means of dividing the arc energy within the connector system.

Separable loadbreak design with enhanced ratings

A cable accessory for injecting fluid into a cable. The accessory has first and second ends configured to be coupled to the cable and an external cable accessory, respectively. The accessory has an injection port configured to introduce the fluid to a stranded conductor of the cable. The accessory may include a body and conductive rod. The body defines a through-channel configured to receive the conductor. The rod has a first portion that extends outwardly from the second end to be received inside the external cable accessory and to form an electrical connection therewith. The rod has a second portion configured to be coupled to the conductor and form an electrical connection therewith. The second portion (with the conductor coupled thereto) is positionable inside the through-channel with the first portion extending outward from the second end. The fluid is injectable into the conductor through injection port, which extends into the through-channel.

Injection electrical connector

An arrester is disclosed capable of coupling a cable accessory utilizing a push on method. The arrester comprises a body having a surge arrester portion, a receiving portion, and a conductive contact. The receiving portion is configured to couple to a coupling fastener comprising a first side, second side, and a latching mechanism. Various methods of engaging and disengaging the arrester to a cable accessory utilizing the coupling fastener are disclosed.

Push on arrester

An elbow arrester with a T-body is disclosed capable of coupling with an apparatus for protection from transient over voltage, and coupling with additional cable accessories, without having to loosen the initial connection with the coupled apparatus. The elbow body of the T-body arrester has a first portion, and a second portion protruding from an intermediate section of the first portion to define a T-body. A receiving feature is located within the first portion extending towards a first end, while a male feature is coupled to a second end of the first portion, opposite from the receiving feature. A coupling fastener is integrally molded into the first portion, providing for an apparatus coupled to the coupling fastener to be decoupled without loosening the connection of another apparatus connected to the T-Body elbow. Further, decoupling the other apparatus does not loosen the apparatus coupled to the coupling fastener.

R-stack arrester

A device for electrically connecting a cable metallic shield to another electrical element includes a neutral connection portion and an extended connecting member. The neutral connection portion is a flexible contact strip for electrically connecting to the metallic shield of the cable. The extended connecting member connects to the neutral connection portion and is used to electrically connect to another electrical element. The extended connecting member has a plurality of electrical members disposed over the contact strip. A clamping device biases the contact strip against the metallic shield of the cable. In use, an environmental jacket from the electrical cable is removed to expose the metallic shield of the cable. The contact strip is wrapped around the exposed metallic shield, and the clamping device is then connected to the contact strip. Another end of the extended connecting member is then used to connect to the other electrical element.

Method and related device for connecting to a metallic shield of a cable

A splice housing is configured to slide over and engage with a metallic connector that couples together cable conductors in an electrical distribution system. The splice housing has a first end arranged to engage a first cable, a second end arranged to engage a second cable and a central portion set between the first and second ends that engages the metallic connector. A first support core holds the first end in an expanded state, while a second support core holds the second end in an expanded state. The first and the second ends are molded so that they have relaxed internal diameters that are smaller than a relaxed internal diameter of the central portion.

Cold shrinkable primary joint

An insulating system for splicing a pair of cables having at least partially exposed non-insulating portions joined with a metallic connector is disclosed. The insulating system includes an insulating tube constructed from a shape memory material having a central section having a substantially elliptical cross-section and a pair of end sections with substantially circular cross-sections. A pair of support cores is removably insertable in each of the end sections for holding the end sections in a stretched configuration. When the insulating system is placed about the cables and the connector and the support cores are removed from the end sections, the end sections return to a pre-stretched configuration, thereby completing a splice of the cables.
