Image data of a light source comprising a surface is obtained using an optical sensor. The surface includes a color band code comprising an array of color regions at least partially modifying visible light of the light source prior to the light impinging the optical sensor. One or more characteristics of the color band code are determined based on the image data that is obtained. Determining a unique identity of the light source based on the determined one or more characteristics of the color band code is performed, or determining a location within a structure associated with the light source based on the determined one or more characteristics of the color band code is performed.

The service provider can aggregate the data and, in one example, assign a usage fee that describes a monetary value based on the usage parameter and generate an output that includes that usage fee.

A self-aligning connector assembly for a light fixture. In some embodiments, the self-aligning connector assembly includes a base and a self-alignment component. The base includes a first alignment feature extending from a platform and a first electrical contact, and the self-alignment component includes a second alignment feature and a second electrical contact. When the self-alignment component is positioned over and then released onto the base, the first alignment feature mates with the second alignment feature which causes rotation of the self-alignment component under the force of gravity, resulting in operably connecting the first electrical contact to the second electrical contact.

Embodiments of a lamp that utilizes a reflector and a light source with light-emitting diode (LED) devices to generate an optical intensity distribution substantially similar to that of a conventional incandescent light bulb. These embodiments utilize an operation configuration with parameters that define relationships between components of the lamp to generate the optical intensity distribution. These parameters can, in one example, set out the position of the reflector relative to the light source as well as the ratio between dimensions of the reflector and the light source. In one embodiment, the reflector is in position relative to the light source to form a blocking area proximate the light source that defines a part of the lamp that does not diffuse light.

A method for producing a luminaire housing on an additive manufacturing system includes selecting a luminaire housing base shape from which a data file of a first convex polyhedral model is built, rescaling the first convex polyhedral model into a larger convex polyhedral model, filling the larger convex polyhedral model with multiple versions of the first convex polyhedral model, separating larger convex polyhedral shape model into structural unit shape, and providing the data file containing the structural unit shapes to the additive manufacturing system. In some implementations an interior volume of the larger convex polyhedral shape model can be cleared of portions of first convex polyhedral model. The method includes the additive manufacturing system producing one or more structural units based on the structural unit shapes described in the electronic data file.
