The invention provides formulations containing highly concentrated solutions of rifabutin and methods of making such formulations. The invention also provides methods of using such formulations to treat a bacterial infection in a subject.

Rifabutin treatment methods, uses, and compositions

The invention provides antibiotic combination therapies for treating aninfection in a subject. The combination therapies include rifabutin and a second antibiotic, such as colistin and cefiderocol.

Antibiotic combination therapies

The invention provides systems and methods for increased clinical efficacy of rifabutin against. The invention takes advantage of the discovery of a ferric-coprogen (FhuE) receptor that is responsible for the uptake of rifabutin intocells. Methods preferably include obtaining a sample from a patient suspected of having an infection; performing a test on the sample to identify an infection ofin the patient; and providing a formulation of rifabutin for treating the patient that, when administered to the patient, maximizes a resultant AUC and/or C. The method may include administering the formulation of rifabutin to the patient. Preferably the formulation is delivered to the patient, e.g., by intravenous injection and results in a Cis that greater than about 2 mg/L and optionally less than about 50 mg/L.

They can be used as medicaments to treat or prevent infections or as disinfectants for foodstuffs, cosmetics, medicaments or other nutrient-containing materials. These peptidomimetics can be manufactured by a process which is based on a mixed solid- and solution phase synthetic strategy.

This invention provides novel 4-oxoquinolizine compounds and their uses for a series of broad-spectrum antibiotics having no cross-resistance to existing or emerging classes of antibiotics. In addition the novel 4-oxoquinolizine compounds are useful against CDC Category A and B pathogens. The invention also provides pharmaceutical compositions comprising certain 4-oxoquinolizines in combination with subinhibitory concentrations of polymyxin B against clinical isolates which are resistant to quinolones, carbapenems and other antimicrobial agents.

A novel combination comprising a &#x3b2;-hairpin peptidomimetic of the formula cyclo(-Thr-Trp-Ile-Dab-Orn-Dab-Dab-Trp-Dab-Dab-Ala-Ser-Pro-Pro) (I), and a further compound with antibiotic activity, that enable therapeutic control of specific bacterial infections in human or animals at doses of the individual compounds lower than either of the compounds administered alone. The combination can be used as a medicament to treat e.g. skin or soft tissue infections; eye, ear, blood stream, or intra-abdominal infections; infections related to respiratory diseases, to bone diseases, to cardiovascular diseases, to genitourinal diseases, or to gastrointestinal diseases.

Combinations with a backbone-cyclized peptide
