A skin pricker has a barrel () in which a hammer () released by a trigger mechanism () can be shot forwards by a compressed spring () to impact on a lancet () and momentarily project its tip. The rear end of the spring acts against a barrier () adjustable axially of the barrel, so that the spring can be more or less compressed before release, causing the hammer to act with greater or lesser force on the lancet. The barrier () may have projections () that engage in skew slots () in the barrel, so that rotation of the barrier axially adjusts it. A sleeve () over the rear part of the barrel instrumental in priming the device may co-operate with the projections and be rotatable to set the desired spring force.

Lancet

A firing device has a housing () for an injector () with a trigger () whose action to eject a dose from its needle () is forwards against a resistance. The housing contains a spring () which acts on an axially movable locator () for the injector () that co-operates with its trigger (). The device is primed by compressing the spring (), the injector then being latched in a rearward position. Release of the catch () causes the spring () first to propel the injector () forwards, acting through the locator () and trigger (), until the needle () is projected, and then to overcome the resistance to the trigger () to actuate that and cause a dose to be ejected.

A syringe holder has a barrel ( ) with a sleeve ( ) screwed over its forward end. A syringe is entered into the rear end of the barrel ( ), needle ( ) first, with the sleeve ( ) at its rearmost position.
