A fuel injector assembly for a fuel-actuated fuel injector includes an injector body, and an injection control valve assembly. The injector body includes therein a low-pressure fuel passage extending from a clamping face to an armature cavity to convey spent actuating fuel to the armature cavity. The fuel injector assembly also includes a flushing drain formed by the injector body and fluidly connected to at least one of a valve pin bore in the injector body or the armature cavity. The flushing drain forms, together with the low-pressure fuel passage and the armature cavity, a cooling circuit for the spent actuating fuel. The flushing drain extends to a drain opening formed in an outer body surface of the injector body. Related methodology is also disclosed.

Fuel-actuated fuel injector having cooling fuel circuit and method

A fuel system includes a fuel injector having a split check assembly with a control piece, an outlet piece, and a check sleeve. A trapped volume is formed between the control piece and the outlet piece within the check sleeve, to hydraulically couple the control piece to the outlet piece. A starting rate shape clearance fluidly connects the trapped volume to a fuel cavity and is formed between the check sleeve and one of the control piece or outlet piece received therein, and modulates a starting rate shape of fuel injection from the fuel injector. Related methodology is disclosed.

A fuel injector nozzle assembly includes a two-piece outlet check having a timing control piece and a rate control piece. A nozzle passage is formed between a nozzle body and a two-piece outlet check, and a sac cavity is formed by the rate control piece and the nozzle body and fluidly connects a through-hole in the rate control piece to nozzle outlets. A starting-flow clearance is formed by the rate control piece and the timing control piece, and is opened by moving the timing control piece relative to the rate control piece. Moving the rate control piece relative to the nozzle body opens a main-flow seat. The nozzle assembly provides a slow starting injection rate shape in a common rail or similar fuel system and improved controllability over minimum delivery quantities.

A valve assembly for a fuel pump is provided. The valve assembly may include an inlet valve limited to a first range of travel extending between a fully closed position and a fully opened position of the inlet valve, a valve pin coupled to the inlet valve, an armature pin selectively engaging the valve pin, and an armature coupled to the armature pin and limited to a second range of travel extending between an engaged position and a disengaged position that is less than the first range of travel.

A liquid pump applicable in a fuel system such as a common rail fuel system includes a valve assembly having a valve stack with axially aligned components, dead volume, and vapor-distributing flow channels, for cavitation mitigation. An inlet valve meters a flow of liquid into the pump for pressurization by a plurality of reciprocating plungers operated by way of a rotating camshaft.

The pumping mechanism may include a barrel formed of a barrel substrate and including a first end surface, a second end surface opposite the first end surface, and a bore between the first and second end surfaces. The pumping mechanism may further include a plunger formed of a plunger substrate and configured to be slidably disposed in the bore in barrel, the plunger substrate having a tribological coating.

A cryogenic LNG fuel system is provided that includes a tank for storing LNG and a LNG fill system including a LNG inlet passage for directing a flow of LNG into the tank. A cryogenic pump is in fluid communication with the tank and includes a pumping element at least partially immersed in the LNG for directing the LNG out of the tank and a seal. A lubricant system is provided that includes a lubricant reservoir and a lubricant inlet passage in communication with the lubricant reservoir and the LNG inlet passage. The lubricant system is adapted to introduce the lubricant into the flow of LNG in the LNG inlet passage such that at least a portion of the lubricant is entrained in the LNG in the LNG inlet passage and carried into the tank.

A fuel supply system for a reciprocating-piston engine includes a storage tank; a wall of the storage tank defining a first aperture and a second aperture therethrough; a first fuel injector fluidly coupled with the first aperture of the storage tank via a pressure control module and a first fuel injector supply conduit; a pump fluidly coupled with the second aperture of the storage tank; and a second fuel injector fluidly coupled with an outlet port of the pump via a second fuel injector supply conduit. The pressure control module is configured to maintain a pressure in the first fuel injector supply conduit within a pressure range that includes a pressure value that is less than a pressure inside the storage tank. The pump is configured to maintain a pressure inside the second fuel injector supply conduit that is greater than the pressure inside the first fuel injector supply conduit.

An after-treatment device that includes a diesel particulate filter (DPF) requiring periodic regeneration includes a sensor providing a signal indicative of a soot accumulation and at least one device providing an operating parameter indicative of a work mode of the machine. A controller determines a soot level and a readiness level based on the work mode of the machine, and further classifies the soot level relative to a desired range for initiating a regeneration event and initiates the regeneration event when the soot level falls within the desired range.

A dual fuel system includes liquid and gaseous fuel supplies and a fuel injector in fluid communication therewith. A gaseous fuel check in the fuel injector forms a leak path with a fuel injector body between gaseous and liquid fuel passages, and a leakage limiting seal is positioned about the gaseous fuel check and deformable into sealing contact with the gaseous fuel check responsive to an increase in a pressure drop from the liquid fuel passage to the gaseous fuel passage in the fuel injector.

The exhaust treatment device may additionally have a first valve element that is mounted to the housing and disposed at an entrance of the at least one purge passage The first valve element may be configured to provide a unidirectional flow of purge fluid to the at least one purge passage.
