A peripheral device for a computing device comprises a body configured for insertion into a storage cavity in the computing device, a first magnet, and a second magnet. The first magnet is disposed within the body proximate a first external surface of the body and having a first pole of a first polarity and a second pole of a second polarity, wherein the first pole is oriented toward the first external surface. The second magnet is disposed within the body between a second external surface and the first magnet and having a first pole of the first polarity and a second pole of the second polarity, wherein the first pole of the second magnet is oriented toward the second external surface.

A passive stylus with a deformable tip is described herein. In one embodiment, a thin annular body configured to be hand-held with a chisel shaped tip disposed at the first end of the body is provided. The chisel shaped tip includes a deformable material such that the chisel shaped tip is operable to interface with a touch a sensitive surface with a detectable surface area when a first pressure is exerted on the body and translated to the chisel shaped tip. The chisel shaped tip is operable to interface with the touch sensitive surface with a second detectable surface area, this one different from the first detectable surface area, when a second pressure is exerted on the body and translated to the chisel shaped tip. The stylus may include a second tip on the back end for providing an erase function.

A system and method are provided including a first thermal component adapted for thermal communication with an integrated circuit, and a second thermal component adapted for thermal communication with the first thermal component upon engagement therewith. Further provided is a coupler slidably coupled to the first thermal component and/or the second thermal component. In use, such coupler is capable of a first orientation for disengaging, the first thermal component and the second thermal component, and a second orientation for engaging the first thermal component and the second thermal component.

A light bar and reflector assembly for indicating the status of a computing device is disclosed. A reflector assembly having a light source is connected to the chassis of a computer. The reflector assembly includes reflective surfaces that reflect light from the light source through an opening in the reflector assembly. A light bar is attached to the bezel such that, when the bezel is placed over the computer chassis, the light bar aligns with the opening in the reflector assembly. The light bar includes reflective surfaces so as to channel the light from the light source to refractive surfaces which refract the light into the air such that a distinctive light pattern is visible across the length of the light bar. The design of the light bar produces an intense broad band of visible light on the light bar. The light intensity dissipates towards each end of the light bar. A colored light source located within the reflector assembly may be engaged so as to produce a colored band of visible light on the light bar.

A rotary latch assembly which allows for simple, inexpensive and reliable attachment of a computer bezel to a computer housing. Latches disposed on each side of the bezel engage openings in the computer housing so as to secure the bezel to the computer housing. The latches are attached to rails which includes gears. A knob which includes rotary gears extends through an opening in the bezel. The rotary gears engage the gears of both of the rails such that the latches may be moved within a limited range by rotating the knob. Thus, the bezel may be removed by rotating the knob such that the latches move inward, thereby disengaging the latches from the openings in the computer housing.

A switch and plunger mechanism which allows for simple, inexpensive and reliable actuation of a switch is disclosed. A plunger having two flanges and a plunger pin is disposed in an opening within a computer housing which includes angled surfaces. When the plunger is pushed in, the flanges press against the tapered surfaces so as to deflect each of the flanges inwardly. Continued movement of the plunger into the engaged position moves the plunger pin such that it engages the switch. As the plunger moves into the engaged position, changing contact surfaces between the plunger and the surfaces of the plunger receptacle causes an audible and tactile snap to be emitted. The movement of the plunger into the fully depressed position deflects the flanges so as to store potential energy. When the finger pressure is released from the plunger, the stored energy is released so as to straighten the flanges and push the plunger pin back into the fully extended position.
