In at least some implementations, a fluid pump includes a drive shaft including at least one drive surface and a pumping element. The pumping element includes an opening in which a portion of the drive shaft is received so that the pumping element is driven for rotation by the drive shaft, and the opening is larger than the drive shaft to provide a clearance between the pumping element and at least part of the drive shaft. The pumping element also includes at least one engagement surface arranged to be engaged by the drive surface of the drive shaft when the drive shaft is rotated where one or both of the drive surface and the engagement surface are angled to provide a surface area of engagement between the drive surface and engagement surface that is at least 1% of the surface area of the drive surface.

Fluid pump with shaft driven pumping element

A reactant delivery system for engine exhaust gas treatment may include a tank in which a reactant is received, a pumping device, a pressure relief device, and a reactant distribution device. The pumping device may have an inlet disposed within the interior of the tank to receive the reactant, and an outlet through which the reactant is discharged. The pressure relief device may have an inlet in fluid communication with the outlet of the pumping device, a primary outlet to discharge the reactant under pressure to a downstream location, and a bypass outlet through which at least some of the reactant discharged from the pumping device is selectively discharged. And the reactant distribution device may be in fluid communication with the bypass outlet of the pressure relief device and have a plurality of outlets to distribute the reactant to at least two different locations within the tank.

Reactant delivery for engine exhaust gas treatment

A fuel transfer system having a nozzle with an inlet in communication with a source of pressurized fuel in a portion of a fuel tank, and an outlet through which the fuel is discharged. A restrictor is arranged between the source of pressurized fuel and the nozzle. A first venturi receives fuel dispensed from the nozzle, and a second venturi receives fuel dispensed from the first venturi. The second venturi has an outlet in fluid communication with the portion of the fuel tank housing the source of pressurized fluid.

Fuel transfer arrangement

A fuel filter and vapor separator arrangement having at least one layer of liquid fuel permeable material defining at least one substantially enclosed cavity. The permeable material has at least one opening to provide fluid communication of liquid fuel within the cavity with an inlet of a high pressure fuel pump outside the cavity. A jet pump and/or fuel vapor vent is arranged relative to the cavity to facilitate the elimination of fuel vapor flowing to the high pressure fuel pump.

Fuel filter arrangement

A multiple-channel, single stage, turbine fuel pump impeller, preferably for use with vehicle fuel delivery systems. The impeller includes independent inner and outer vane arrays concentrically disposed to one another and radially spaced apart. The inner and outer vane arrays respectively communicate with independent inner and outer pumping chambers, each of which receives fuel at an inlet end from a common fuel inlet passage and expels fuel at an outlet end into a common fuel outlet passage. Furthermore, the pumping efficiency and overall performance of the pump is increased by utilizing an impeller where each vane: i) includes a linear root segment and a curved tip segment, ii) has a V-shape that opens in the direction of rotation, and iii) includes a rounded surface or radius on a trailing edge, to name but a few of the attributes of the vanes.

Turbine fuel pump impeller

A fuel pump assembly for drawing fuel from a reservoir and supplying that fuel to an engine and including a fuel pumping module and an electric motor supported in a pump housing. The pumping module includes a module housing and an impeller that the motor rotates in an impeller cavity of the module housing. The impeller includes upper and lower vanes that move fluid through upper and lower portions of a semi-circular pumping channel, respectively. An exhaust port extends through the module housing and communicates with an exit passage of the pumping channel. An arcuate trench is disposed in the upper wall of the module housing and communicates with the outlet end of the pumping channel to redirect exiting fuel upward from the pumping module to a fuel pump housing outlet. The exit passage of the pumping channel extends tangentially outward into the trench. so that fuel exiting the pumping channel is relatively unimpeded.

Fuel pumping assembly

An in-tank type electric motor fuel pump with a fuel inlet end cap, a fuel outlet cap, a case coaxially joining the end caps to form a pump housing, an electric motor mounted in the housing having a stator with spring-retained permanent field magnets surrounding the motor armature, and a gerotor pump in the housing rotatably driven by the motor armature. An inlet port plate, an outlet port plate and a cam ring sandwiched between the plates form a gerotor pocket axially between the plates, and inner and outer gear rotors are disposed in the pocket with intermeshing teeth defining circumferentially disposed expanding and ensmalling pumping chambers. A pair of alignment and fastening screw pins are the sole hardware for clamping the plates and cam ring in tightly sandwiched relationship and holding the pump unit together in properly axially, radially and angularly oriented component relationship in precision final assembly as an operable gerotor pump. The screw pins each have a cylindrical smooth surface shank portion precision fitting in smooth wall precision aligned bores in the plates and cam ring. The screw pin threaded end threadably engages a threaded portion of the inlet plate bore hole that is slightly reduced in diameter relative to the smooth surface bore holes. The radial tolerances between the pin and inlet plate hole threads are larger than that between the pin shank smooth portion and the associated smooth surface alignment bores in the plates and cam ring to prevent alignment distortion from thread seating stresses. The screw pins also have axially elongated and slotted screw heads that serve as fail-safe stops limiting loosening motion of the magnets. The pump rotors have predetermined fixed assembly axial and radial clearance dimensions relative to the pump plates and cam ring respectively established and maintained in assembly by the screw pins fitment in the plates and cam ring.

Screw pins for a gear rotor fuel pump assembly

An electric-motor liquid fuel turbine pump wherein the pump impeller periphery has a circumferential array of axial counter flow blades arranged in radially spaced outer and inner concentric circular rows. An arcuate pumping channel includes first and second channel section arcuate grooves axially opposed in side-flanking relationship to the impeller and radially co-extensive with both blade rows to conjointly define a toroidal helical flow path extending circumferentially between the pumping channel inlet and outlet ports. The grooves have a constant radial cross section but the first groove cross sectional area is greater than that of the second groove. The impeller may be a one-piece molded part, or a two-part subassembly of an inner impeller disc and encircling outer impeller ring each having a row of blades formed at its periphery. A pump inlet cap has a top face defining one side plate for the impeller and the first channel groove communicating at one end with the channel inlet. A pump outlet cap has a bottom face defining the other side plate for the impeller and the second channel groove communicating at one end with the channel outlet. A guide ring is sandwiched between the caps and encircles the outer row of impeller blades.
