A beacon () for a ranging system includes an electronic scanned array (ESA) antenna and a transceiver. The ESA antenna is configured to emit a separate radio frequency (RF) phased-array narrow beam () for each of a plurality of segments of an arc, and receive from an end user node () a response signal based on at least one of the RF phased-array narrow beam (). Each segment of the arc is scanned at a specified time interval. The transceiver is configured to transmit a pulsed signal via the RF phased-array narrow beam (), and receive the response signal.

Beacon and associated components for a ranging system

A ranging system includes at least one beacon and a control module. The at least one beacon is configured to scan each segment in a plurality of segments of an arc with a narrow radio frequency (RF) beam and receive a response signal from an end user node in at least one segment. Each segment of the arc is scanned at a specified time interval. The control module is configured to communicate with the at least one beacon. The control module is further configured to calculate at least one of an angle-of-arrival (AOA) and a time-of-flight (TOF) of a response signal from the end user node to the beacon and generate an end user node location relative to a beacon location.

Ranging system using active radio frequency (RF) nodes

A method of using a ranging system for communicating between an end user node and controller to determine the location of the end user node relative to a beacon. The controller transmits an inquiry message to the end user node with a minimum received signal strength indicator (RSSI) message that includes a threshold for transmitting a reply message. When the measured RSSI of the inquiry message exceeds the RSSI threshold, the controller receives a reply message from the end user node, including the measured RSSI.

Method of using a ranging system to determine the location of a node relative to a beacon

A beacon for a ranging system includes an electronic scanned array (ESA) antenna and a transceiver. The ESA antenna is configured to emit a separate radio frequency (RF) phased-array narrow beam for each of a plurality of segments of an arc, and receive from an end user node a response signal based on at least one of the RF phased-array narrow beam. Each segment of the arc is scanned at a specified time interval. The transceiver is configured to transmit a pulsed signal via the RF phased-array narrow beam, and receive the response signal.

A high performance diplexer is disclosed having a common conductor which branches into two resonators in distributive form. The diplexer may be used reciprocally, has low insertion loss, is tuneable, has high signal isolation and impedance matching, and may be readily produced to meet the space requirements relating to size, temperature, radiation and performance. A method of tuning the resonators of the diplexer is also disclosed. Specific applications for the diplexer are also disclosed and include use in a GPS transmitter, GPS receiver and as part of an electronic scan array (ESA) antenna. The diplexer's small size and weight, and its resistance to the conditions of space make it ideal for use in satellite applications.

A complete process is described for demodulating subsidiary communications authorization (SCA) radio signals. This process takes as an input an FM radio signal from a commercial FM telescoping type antenna. The signal is optimally processed through filtering, amplification, and dual detection circuitry to provide a high quality sub-carrier audio signal. Special matching is provided to set the signal's gain, noise figure, and injected distortion levels as a function of the antenna being extended or collapsed. Also, filtering of RF image and IF baseband signals is uniquely and efficiently performed in a radio receiver having an telescoping antenna and audio out line, an SCA radio turner has a matching filter between the antenna and a first FM discriminator to match the level of extension of the antenna, a phase-lock-loop circuit within a second FM discriminator following the first FM discriminator, and sub-carrier audio processing between the FM discriminator and the audio out line. A filter for image rejection is included between the matching filter and the first FM discriminator. The first FM discriminator includes a local oscillator and mixer to convert the incoming RF signal to an IF signal at approximately 10.7 MHz and a square wave detection circuit to convert a main broadcast signal into an audio signal and a sub-carrier signal from a doubly modulated signal to a singly modulated signal.

High performance diplexer and method

A signal generator is electrically coupled with a first sensor for sensing the conductivity of water and electrically coupled with a second sensor for sensing the conductivity of a foam solution that included a concentration of surfactant. One or more switches repeatedly switch between the sensed conductivity of the water and the sensed conductivity of the foam solution. A conversion circuit converts the conductivity of the water into a first voltage and the conductivity of the foam solution into a second voltage, such that a single circuit path may be used to convert both conductivity values. A control circuit compares the difference of the first voltage and second voltage to determine a differential voltage that is utilized to control a surfactant control valve.

Automatic foam solution regulation for compressed-air-foam-systems

A tuner specifically adapted for recovery of a data signal injected into a video signal and then subsequently transmitted over a television channel or cable is disclosed. The tuner includes an IF local oscillator that is phase locked to the input signal sync pulses and has filters that are designed to pass through only the data bandwidth. In addition, the circuit has a low noise figure of about 1.5 dB and a third order intercept point of +35 dBm.
