A coated fiber cement article in the form of an unattached fiber cement board substrate having a first major surface at least a portion of which is covered with a crush resistant final topcoat composition comprising a multistage latex polymer, and a method for making a crush resistant coated fiber cement article by coating a fiber cement board substrate with such a composition and stacking the coated boards.

A coated article which includes a cement fiberboard substrate and a radiation-curable coating system applied to the substrate. The coating system includes an aqueous dispersion of water-dispersible polymer particles, one or more olefinic compounds and water, and may be provided in the form of one or more coating compositions that may be applied in one or more layers, wherein each of the coating compositions is preferably an aqueous composition, or can be mixed with another composition (e.g., on the substrate) to form an aqueous composition.

Crush resistant latex topcoat composition for fiber cement substrates

A cement fiberboard substrate is treated on at least one edge of the substrate with an aqueous solution containing at least one phosphorus acid or salt of a phosphorus acid. The treated edge is overcoated with a sealer, primer or topcoat. The resulting prefinished fiber cement siding product has improved coating adhesion, especially near burnished regions and near edges and corners proximate the burnished regions. A phosphorus acid or salt of a phosphorus acid also may be added to the sealer to provide further improvement in coating adhesion.

Treatment for cement composite articles

A coated article and method of employing a water-based coating composition on a fiber cement composite substrate is provided. The coating composition contains: an epoxy resin, a crosslinker having epoxide-reactive functional groups, a latex polymer distinct from the epoxy resin, and water.
