Fluid analyzer

A Gas Chromatograph (GC) detector comprises a first circuit, a second circuit, a digital subtractor and a digital logic shared between one to many detector channels to provide a GC measurement in a digital form. The first circuit includes a first counter circuitry to provide a first counter output. The second circuit includes a second counter circuitry to provide a second counter output. The GC detector includes a digital subtractor to subtract the first counter output from the second counter output and provide a digital subtractor output. The GC detector further includes a digital logic shared between one to many detector channels to implement at least a portion of the first counter circuitry and the second counter circuitry. The digital logic to receive the digital subtractor output and provides the GC measurement in the digital form. The GC detector may be based on a Thermal Conductivity Detector (TCD) in which an integrator of a Sigma-Delta (&#x3a3;-&#x394;) A/D converter is eliminated and the &#x3a3; factor of the Sigma-Delta (&#x3a3;-&#x394;) A/D converter is accomplished in a digital form.

A fluid pressure control apparatus includes a proportional solenoid valve operatively connected between a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet and a pressure sensor fluidically coupled to the fluid outlet, wherein an electronic controller generates and outputs a control signal to the solenoid valve in dependence on a first signal from the pressure sensor and a second signal corresponding to a pressure set point, where the solenoid valve has a rest position between opened and closed, and the electronic controller is further adapted to generate the control signal with either of opposite polarities to move the valve in either of opposite directions from its rest position in order to reduce power consumption and heat generation, in particular for use in gas analysis equipment located in hazardous areas.

A thermal conductivity detector for a gas chromatograph includes a heatable resistive detector element configured to be physically arranged in a flow of analytes eluting from a chromatography column and electrically arranged together with resistors in separate arms of a measuring bridge, wherein to provide a new configuration of the thermal conductivity detector to allow high detector sensitivity and to meet intrinsic safety requirements, the detector element includes at least two equal detector sub-elements that are configured to be physically arranged in series in the flow of analytes and electrically arranged in parallel with each other, where the detector element in one arm and a reference resistor in the other arm of the same half of the measuring bridge are configured such that the total resistance of the parallel detector sub-elements at operating temperature is at least approximately equal to the resistance of the reference resistor.

Intrinsically safe touch screen for process equipment

A system and method for providing an intrinsically safe (IS) circuit for driving a solenoid valve at a low power is disclosed. A voltage source generates a first voltage and is connected to a first side of the solenoid valve. A voltage inverter is connected to the voltage source and generates a second voltage from the first voltage. The second voltage is of opposite magnitude to the first voltage. A controller selectively controls the first voltage and the second voltage to be applied to the solenoid valve. In order to actuate the solenoid valve, the first voltage is applied to the first side of the solenoid valve and the second voltage is applied to the second side of the solenoid valve. In order to hold the solenoid valve in an on position, the first voltage is maintained and the second voltage is no longer applied to the second side of the solenoid valve. This circuit utilizes a reduced voltage, which allows the use of capacitance high enough to effectively drive a solenoid valve while still being compliant with IS standards due to a common, lower voltage magnitude. Also, this circuit allows for higher power solenoids to comply with IS standards. Further, this circuit is certifiable as IS without complex and expensive testing procedures.

Intrinsically safe circuit for driving a solenoid valve at low power

The present invention is a novel device, system, and method for data transport and bus architecture. According to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the bus architecture may comprise of a continuous serial bus that may be incorporated into a process control sample system to provide an intrinsically safe and efficient system. An alternative exemplary embodiment, in an intrinsically safe control sampling system, a data transport device may be used to couple sampling controls and analyzers. An exemplary embodiment of the present invention may contain an access controller providing a protocol bridge for an intrinsically safe control sampling system to couple sampling controls and analyzers.

Data transport architecture

A system and method for providing an intrinsically safe (IS) galvanically isolated barrier device. An IS barrier device provides IS galvanic isolation between a non-IS system and an IS system using a two-stage approach. In the first stage, a non-galvanically isolated IS barrier limits energy of electrical transmissions received from the non-IS system to convert such electrical transmissions into IS transmissions. In the second stage, the IS transmissions are transmitted through a galvanic isolator to the IS system to galvanically isolate the IS system from the non-IS system. A digital monolithic isolator cannot be IS certified to be the single bridge between IS and non-IS systems, however, it can be used in a certifiable fashion to isolate between IS systems. When used in conjunction with a non-galvanic IS barrier that is capable meeting the IS certification as non-IS to IS barrier, a digital monolithic isolator can be used to implement the galvanic isolator such that high speed, low cost galvanic isolation is possible. Such a galvanically isolated barrier device can be used to implement an IS galvanically isolated high speed communication bus for sample system control.

Intrinsically safe galvanically isolated barrier device and method thereof

A system and method for providing a serial communication bus is disclosed. A serial communication bus connects multiple footprint devices, such as electronic sensors in a process control sample system. The footprint devices can utilize various footprint device specific communication protocols. Multiple tophat devices act as general I/O ports for connecting with the footprint devices. Each tophat device identifies the footprint device specific communication protocol of a connected footprint device, converts outputs signals transmitted from the connected footprint device from the footprint device specific communication protocol of the footprint device to a standard bus communication protocol, and converts input signals directed to the connected footprint device from the standard bus communication protocol to the footprint device specific communication protocol of the footprint device. The serial communication bus connects the tophat devices and transmits input and output signals using the standard bus communication protocol.

Method and apparatus for serial bus communication

A system, method, and device for amplifying the signal of a photodiode are provided. The exemplary system may have a photodiode with an amplifier. The amplifier may have an amplifier inverting input, an amplifier non-inverting input, and an amplifier output. A photodiode of the system may have a photodiode anode electrically connected with the amplifier inverting input and a photodiode cathode electrically connected with the amplifier non-inverting input. A gain resistor of the system may couple the amplifier inverting input with the amplifier output. The system may also have a fixed voltage reference electrically connected with the photodiode cathode and the amplifier non-inverting output.

Amplifier configuration with noise reduction for a photodiode

An electrical feed through for use in a high temperature oven such as the oven in a gas chromatograph. The feed through includes printed circuit boards which are maintained in compression to prevent the boards from physically separating at the elevated temperatures used in the oven. The structure that provides the compression also does not allow any flexure, torsional or longitudinal stress on the boards. The boards include an enhanced connector pad which is made from a continuous annular copper ring which is connected to all of the conductive layers of the board.
