Flame retardant compositions that include a thermoplastic polyurethane, a metal hydrate flame retardant and a phosphorus-based flame retardant are provided. The compositions are characterized by good flame retardant properties, as well as high insulation resistance.

Thermoplastic polyurethane composition with high insulation resistance

Halogen-free, flame retardant compositions comprising in weight percent based on the weight of the composition: A. 20 to 60% TPU/Si-g-EVA polymer blend in which the Si-g-EVA is crosslinked, B. 1 to 25% organic phosphate ester, C. 30 to 60% metal hydrate, and D. 0.1 to 10% epoxidized novolac. Optionally, the compositions further comprise in weight percent based on the weight of the composition, one or more of: E. 0.01 to 0.5% anti-dripping agent, F. 0.1 to 2% additive; and G. 0.1 to 5% filler.

Halogen-free, flame retardant composition comprising crosslinked silane-g-EVA

This invention provides intumescent, halogen-free, polymeric, silicon-phosphorus-nitrogen (SPN) flame retardant, a process for their preparation, and systems, compositions and articles into which they are incorporated. The inventive intumescent, halogen-free, SPN polymer compositions afford good flame retardant performance at a lower loading compared to conventional phosphorus and nitrogen based intumescent flame retardant compositions.

Halogen-free, thermoplastic polyurethane-based compositions having good mechanical and flame-retardant properties are provided. The compositions include flame-retardant aromatic organic phosphate compounds that do not exhibit migration in molded products, such as cable and wire jacketing and insulation. The compositions include a continuous resin phase comprising a thermoplastic polyurethane elastomer, at least one aromatic organic phosphate flame retardant having a melting point of at least 50.

Migration-free, halogen-free, flame retardant thermoplastic polyurethane compositions

The present disclosure provides a composition which includes a thermoplastic elastomer and a flame retardant composed of a metal hydrate and an oligomeric phosphate ester. The weight ratio of metal hydrate to oligomeric phosphate ester is greater than 1.45:1. The composition may be a component of an article such as a coated wire or a coated cable, with the composition present in the coating.

Flame retardant polyurethane composition

The present disclosure provides a flexible, halogen-free, flame retardant composition. The composition includes from about 25 wt % to about 95 wt % of a thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU); from about 5 wt % to about 50 wt % of an olefin block copolymer (OBC); and from about 30 wt % to about 70 wt % of a flame retardant. The flame retardant is selected from resorcinol bis(diphenyl 5 phosphate) (RDP), bis diphenyl phosphate (BDP), bisphenol-A bis(diphenyl phosphate) (BPADP), aluminum trihydrate (ATH), a nitrogen/phosphorus-based halogen-free flame retardant, epoxidized novolac resin, and combinations thereof. The composition requires no compatibilizer for the TPU and OBC. The composition finds application in wire and cable structures.

Halogen free, flame retardant compositions

Halogen-free TPU compositions comprise in weight percent based on the weight of the composition: A. 1 to 99% thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), B. 1 to 50% tris(2-butoxyethyl)phosphate (TBEP), C. 1 to 70% metal hydrate, and D. 1 to 70% organic phosphate ester other than tris(2-butoxyethyl)phosphate. These compositions exhibit better smoke suppression as compared with conventional organic phosphate flame retardant TPU compositions such as those based on resorcinol bis(diphenyl phosphate) (RDP) and bisphenol-A bis(diphenyl phosphate) (BPADP) in the absence of TBEP.

Halogen-free, flame-retardant thermoplastic polyester elastomer (TPE-E) compositions that include at least one thermoplastic polyester elastomer, at least one low-melting, phosphorus-based flame retardant having a melting temperature no higher than 150&#xb0; C., and a blend of solid intumescent flame retardants comprising a phosphorus-based, organic salt flame retardant and a nitrogen-based organic flame retardant are provided. The presence of the low-melting, phosphorus-based flame retardant renders the compositions more resistant to scratch-whitening.

A halogen-free, flame retardant composition comprises thermoplastic polyurethane, olefin block copolymer, carbonyl-containing olefin polymer compatibilizer, and flame retardant package comprising bisphenol-A bis(diphenyl phosphate) and/or resorcinol bis(diphenyl phosphate), a nitrogen/phosphorus based, halogen-free flame retardant, and epoxidized novolac. The composition that will not only be processed easily to make a wire or cable sheath but also pass both the VW-1 flame retardancy test and the UL1581 heat deformation test at 150&#xb0; C. exhibits good tensile and flexibility properties.

Halogen free, flame retardant compositions for wire and cable applications

Compositions comprising a novolac polymer, an olefin-based polymer with an epoxy group, a filler and optionally a thermoplastic polymer are provided. The compositions may be halogen-free. The present compositions exhibit excellent compatibility between the novolac polymer and the olefin-based polymer with an epoxy group resulting in compositions with superior mechanical properties.
