A disposable volume spirometry apparatus and non-contact measurement system is described. The spirometry system includes an expandable disposable volume spirometry apparatus, a remote non-contact sensor, memory, and a processor. The remote non-contact sensor captures images associated with the expandable disposable volume spirometry apparatus. The memory stores the captured images. The processor is operatively coupled to the memory and determines a volume for the expandable disposable volume spirometry apparatus by analyzing the captured images.

The spirometer has a low thermal capacity. A circuit supplies power to the spirometer in pulses to heat the spirometer to body temperature. The circuit senses the temperature of the spirometer between intervals. The circuit can also be used in a calorimeter to measure the heat exchange during chemical reactions using the palladium hydrogen. The heating and sensing functions are performed by a single element to result in a small pocket sized device. The portability of the device increases its usefulness.

A turbulence conveyor flow meter for medical use includes a turbulence chamber with variable input and/or output areas, a transducer system for the pressure drop across the turbulence chamber and connected between two external points of the chamber, a servomechanism under control of the transducer system, acting on the flow to be measured, and a detector of the measured flow.
