A silane-modified cyanine of Formula (I) includes the valence tautomers thereof: wherein Ris a linear, saturated or unsaturated alkyl chain, having 1 to 30 carbon atoms, wherein one or more carbon atoms are optionally substituted by a 4-, 5- or 6-membered aromatic or non aromatic cyclic grouping of carbon atoms; Rand Rare independently selected from the group consisting of &#x2014;OCH, &#x2014;OCHCH, &#x2014;OCHCHCH, &#x2014;OCH(CH), &#x2014;OCHCHOCH, &#x2014;Cl, &#x2014;Br, &#x2014;I, Formula (II), Formula (III), &#x2014;N(CH), Formula (IV), Formula (V), methyl, ethyl, propyl, isopropyl. The synthesis method and the use as a fluorescent marker are for inorganic solid supports, for example silica nanoparticles, and/or for biomolecules such as peptides, antibodies, DNA, RNA, etc.

Functionalized cyanine having a silane linker arm, a method of preparing thereof and uses thereof

Cyanine-type fluorescent dyes modified with an alkynyl linker arm of formula (I), suitable for the conjugation of biomolecules, such as for example nucleosides, nucleotides, oligonucleotides, nucleic acids, proteins, peptides, vitamins and hormones. A method and intermediates for the synthesis of the alkynyl cyanines of the invention are also described, as well as alkynyl cyanine-biomolecule conjugates and methods for preparing thereof. The alkynyl cyanines can be advantageously used as markers for biomolecules or as quenchers.

Method and device for determining the concentration of heparin in a sample of fluid

A method for determining the concentration of heparin in a fluid sample comprising: (a) providing a fluid sample containing heparin; (b) adding to the fluid sample a solution of a dye to form a mixture of sample and dye, wherein the dye interacts with the heparin in the sample so that the absorption spectrum of the mixture of sample and dye in the visible range varies as a result of the interaction in a manner quantitatively dependent on the heparin concentration; (c) determining the absorption spectrum in the visible range of the mixture of sample and dye; and (d) calculating a spectral parameter representative of both the reduction in the absorption of the free dye in solution and the increase in the absorption of the dye-heparin complex, the value of the spectral parameter being indicative of the concentration of heparin present in the fluid sample, in order to determine the concentration of heparin present in the fluid sample. The relationship between the value of the spectral parameter and the concentration of the heparin present in the fluid sample has been previously determined by determining the absorption spectra, in the visible range, of a composition comprising the fluid and the dye, in the absence of heparin and in the presence of a plurality of concentrations of heparin, and calculating the relationship between the value of the spectral parameter and the concentration of heparin. A device for performing this method is also provided.

Physico-chemical parameters, such as pH, pO.sub.2, pCO.sub.2, % O.sub.2, sat, etc., are determined with the use of a sensitive medium, such as a chromophore, having at least one optical property the profile of the spectrum whereof over a predetermined wavelength spectrum of optical radiation varies as a function of the parameter to be determined. The profile of the spectrum is analysed, for example by means of polychromatic sensor means acting on the medium's spectrum, which is preferably substantially continuous, so as to enable the analysis to be carried out with the aid of a profile-recognition function by typical pattern-recognition operations. The determination is thus rendered largely independent of numerous perturbing factors such as those resulting from the use of partially disposable monitoring units, thus eliminating the need for calibration steps.
