The invention is an adjustable cheek rest for a hand-held weapon, mounted a stock support tube. Specifically, the invention comprises two adjustable tubes with eccentric bores, mounted about the stock support tube so that the stock support tube fits the bore of the inner adjustable tube and the inner adjustable tube fits the bore of the outer adjustable tube. The outer tube functions as the cheek rest. Each adjustable tube may be rotated about its eccentric bore and reversibly locked so as to vary the position of the cheek rest relative to the line of sight.

A magazine for a weapon having a barrel extending in a firing direction iudes a cartridge storage drum which stores a multiplicity of cartridges in a spiral path with a longitudinal axis of the cartridges lying perpendicularly to the firing direction. If the weapon is an automatic rifle, the storage drum can be mounted in or under the stock of the rifle. A guide made up of curved rods extends from the drum and defines a guide path along which the cartridges are fed and rotated from their respect to the firing direction. A feed box is connected to the end of the guide rods at a location remote from the drum for feeding the cartridges to a bolt and chamber area of the weapon. Along the guide path the cartridges engage each other at pivot points so that the cartridges are somewhat free to pivot within the confines of the guide rods but still push each other along the guide path. One or more followers are provided behind the last cartridge. A cable is connected to the last guide follower and extends through the drum and along the guide path. The end of the cable is connected to a spring motor which pulls the cable. The followers is thus pulled which in turn pushes the cartridges through the drum and along the guide path.

A firing mechanism for a weapon having a receiver with a chamber for a caidge comprises a bolt and piston which are separately movable toward and away from the chamber and which are engaged with each other for displacing and rotating the bolt into a locked firing position. A buffer is also movable in the receiver and can strike the rear end of the piston. The piston carries a firing pin which can thus be driven into the primer of a cartridge in the chamber. Three sears are provided. Two of the sears are for engaging the piston, one sear for holding the piston in a position with its firing pin away from the cartridge but with the bolt against the chamber and in its locked position. The other sear for the piston holds the piston with the bolt in a position away from the chamber. This is for open bolt operation. A third sear is provided for engaging the buffer for closed bolt operation. A fire selector is provided which can act as a safety and which provides an automatic and a semi-automatic position for stopping rotation of the sears at appropriate positions for automatic or semi-automatic fire.

Weapon trigger and sear mechanism

An ammunition magazine for an automatic weapon wherein a spring-loaded con of successive cartridges are each fed in alignment to a firing chamber upon the reciprocating action of a bolt. The magazine has a pair of feed-gates, each of which is pivotally mounted on the magazine. The upper ends of the feed-gates together form a semi-circular, separably engaged, retaining cover for the top cartridge in the magazine. The lower ends of the feed-gates in sequence separably engage the next successive round in the magazine in response to the pivotal movement of the upper ends of both gates. This latter action keeps the successive round out of contact with the bolt while the top round is stripped and fed into the firing chamber by the bolt.

A firearm bolt comprises a base having a plurality of outwardly radially ending lugs. Transition surfaces between adjacent lugs are each concavely curved toward the base so that each lug has a broad base area connecting the lug to the base.

In a weapon system including a gun barrel and a bolt carrier, a cartridge eder system comprises sprockets for stripping cartridges individually from a cartridge belt, and moving the cartridges in an upward direction against guide ramps for positioning the cartridge on a pedestal support having a profile for holding the cartridge in vertical angular alignment between the chamber of the barrel and a bolt lug of the bolt of the bolt carrier, thereby permitting larger cartridges to be fed to the barrel in the space between the open bolt and the chamber, which space can accommodate only smaller caliber cartridges in the horizontal distance therebetween, whereby as the bolt moves the cartridge into the chamber, the angular positioning of the cartridge is changed via the profile of the pedestal support, permitting safe entry of the cartridge into the chamber.

Weapon cartridge feeder apparatus and method

A dual function trigger guard has hinged locking and pinned features to ele a firearm when being used in a first mode to be secure against accidental actuation of the trigger and when modified to provide an auxiliary extended trigger which can be efficiently converted to gloved rather than finger operation.
