A client device includes a display device and one or more image capture devices configured to capture video data of a local area surrounding the client device. Different users of an online system are identified from the captured video data, provided privacy settings maintained for the users authorize their identification from the video data, and the client device transmits a request for content to the online system that identifies each of the identified users. The client device receives content items selected for each of the identified users from the online system. From the received content items, the client device generates a feed of content that includes at least one content item selected for each of the identified users and presents the generated feed of content via the display device.

In one embodiment, a technique includes receiving a first story fragment from a storyteller interface of a first computing system. The technique further includes displaying the first story fragment on an audience interface of a second computing system. The technique also includes detecting a trigger on the audience interface of the second computing system. In the technique, the trigger corresponds to the first story fragment. The technique also includes identifying a special effect associated with the trigger. The technique further includes outputting the special effect and the first story fragment on at least one of the storyteller interface displayed on the first computing system and the audience interface displayed on the second computing system.

Augmented reality storytelling: audience-side

A client device receives a request to initiate a communication session with a particular user of a first plurality of users that are registered with the client device. The client device determines, using a sensor of the client device, a respective identity of each of a second plurality of users that are proximate to the client device. The client device determines whether an identity of the particular user matches the respective identity of any of the second plurality of users, and, in response to determining that the identity of the particular user matches the respective identity of any of the second plurality of users, the client device transmits the request to a device of the particular user.

The technique further includes accessing a content object associated with the identifier on a third-party system. In the technique, the content object includes a set of instructions. The technique also includes detecting a trigger. The technique further includes selecting a step of the content object and outputting the selected step.

Interactive instructions

A central authority receives a wake word associated with a service request from a user of a client device. The central authority sends the received wake word to a set of wake word engines. The central authority receives a signal from a selected wake word engine indicating that an assistant associated with the selected wake word engine has been selected by the user based on the received wake word. The central authority transmits a signal blocking the remainder of the wake word engines from receiving additional wake words, and sends the service request to the assistant. Responsive to the assistant receiving the service request, the central authority transmits a signal unblocking the remainder of the wake word engines from receiving wake words.
