Antenna arrangement for distributed massive MIMO

The present disclosure relates in general to telecommunications. In one of its aspects, the technology presented herein concerns a method, implemented in an Access Point (AP), for transmitting data intended for a terminal in a cell-free massive Multiple-Input and Multiple-Output (MIMO) communications system. The AP is grouped into a cluster together with other APs and the cluster operates autonomously. The cluster is connected to, and managed by, one Central Processing Unit (CPU). A message that the AP is selected to serve the terminal and data intended for said terminal are received from the CPU. Power control is independently conducted, exclusively considering the terminals that are served by the AP itself. Thereafter, said intended data is transmitted to the terminal.

Methods and apparatuses for cell-free massive MIMO communication

A disturbance mitigation method of a communication element for a distributed antenna system is disclosed. The communication element is associated with two or more antenna elements of the distributed antenna system. The method comprises acquiring channel condition information associated with at least two of a plurality of wireless communication devices served by the communication element, and partitioning the plurality of wireless communication devices into at least two groups based on the acquired channel condition information. The method also comprises, for each of the groups, determining respective pre-coding weights based on the acquired channel condition information, wherein the respective pre-coding weights of different groups are determined according to different disturbance mitigation approaches. Furthermore, the method comprises transmitting a signal comprising respective symbols intended for corresponding ones of the plurality of wireless communication devices, wherein the symbols intended for wireless communication devices of each group are pre-coded using the determined respective pre-coding weights of the group, and wherein the pre-coded symbols of at least two of the groups are super-positioned to form the signal. Corresponding method of a wireless communication device is also disclosed, as well as corresponding apparatuses, communication element, distributed antenna system, wireless communication device and computer program product.

Disturbance mitigation

A network node () and a method for downlink pilot signal assignment and transmission, and for data transmission. The network node has a plurality of antenna elements distributed over an area. The network node determines a respective Channel State Information (CSI) and/or a respective channel hardening degree for a wireless device () based on an uplink pilot signal. Possibly, the network node determines a mobility condition for the wireless device. Based on one or more out of: the determined respective CSI, the determined respective channel hardening degree and the determined respective mobility condition, the network node obtains a pilot utility metric for the wireless device. Further, the network node assigns a downlink pilot signal to at least one wireless device having a pilot utility metric exceeding a predetermined threshold value. Furthermore, the network node transmits, to the at least one wireless device, data and possibly an assigned downlink pilot signal.

Downlink pilot assignment in massive MIMO

The present invention relates to a method of assigning a transmission timing to a radio terminal in a radio network system including at least a radio network node and a radio terminal and employing a time division duplex method dividing a transmission time in an uplink transmission time interval and a downlink transmission time interval for transmission between the radio network node and the radio terminal, comprising the following steps: determining a speed of movement of the radio terminal with respect to the radio network node; assigning to the radio terminal, based on the speed of movement, a transmission timing in the downlink or uplink transmission time interval. The present invention relates further to a radio network node and a radio terminal adapted to assigning a transmission timing according to the above method.
