A plant and process for the continuous production of hot-rolled steel strips with a minimum thickness of 0.3 mm is disclosed which includes a continuous casting device of thin or medium slabs with a thickness between 40 and 150 mm and a maximum width of at least 2100 mm followed by a roughing mill, a first induction furnace, a water descaler, a second induction furnace, a finishing mill, a cooling station, a cutting station and a winding station. A system for feeding a protective atmosphere containing ≤3% vol. oxygen is provided from the inlet of the second induction furnace to at least the third stand of the finishing mill. Between the continuous casting device and the roughing mill, an initial thermal conditioning and descaling section is provided having in sequence an induction edge heater, an induction heater for the rest of the slab surface and a water descaler.

Plant and process for the continuous production of hot-rolled ultra-thin steel strips

Mill rolls capable of rolling long kilometers used for ESP production line and a method for rolling long kilometers using the mill rolls. The mill rolls include rolls (), a bearing box () and a roll shifting hydraulic cylinder (), wherein the middle portion of the surface of the roll sinks inwards, one end of the rolls is frustum-shaped, smaller and smaller outwards, so that the roll surface forms a compensation ramp, and the other end of the rolls is cylindrical. The upper roll () and the lower roll () have the same roll profile and are positioned in the opposite direction. The mill rolls are characterized by reduced runaway of the rolled product and a longer service life.

Mill rolls capable of rolling long kilometers for ESP production line

A thin slab nozzle contains a central bore extending downstream along longitudinal axis Xfrom an inlet orifice at an upstream end. The central bore comprises an upstream bore portion with a height Ha, in communication with a converging bore portion of height He, in communication with a thin bore portion of height Hf ending at the upstream end of a divider, and first and second front ports separated from one another by the divider and coupled to the central bore portion at least partially at the converging bore portion. Xis a transverse axis, normal to X, along which the nozzle becomes thinner in a downstream portion. In a section of the thin slab nozzle along a symmetry plane &#x3a0;defined by Xand by X, the bore wall of the converging bore portion is curved at all points, and Hf/He&#x2264;1.

Thin slab nozzle for distributing high mass flow rates

A device for supporting and oscillating continuous casting molds in continuous casting plants includes at least one support suitable to support a continuous casting mold, the support including a fixed assembly restrained to a frame of the device and a movable assembly that is slidably restrained to the fixed assembly in a vertical direction and connected to a servomechanism suitable to move it in a reciprocating manner relative to the fixed assembly along the axial direction, the movable assembly including a plurality of channels suitable to allow a flow of a cooling fluid to and from a cooling circuit of the mold, the channels being supplied by supply pipes arranged along the vertical direction. The device further includes at least one connecting pipe suitable to allow to connect a supply pipe, the connecting pipe having a T shape and including a first duct rigidly connected to the movable assembly in a horizontal direction, as well as a second and a third duct extending from the first duct in opposite ways along the vertical direction, the second and third ducts being respectively connected to first and second end portions of the fixed assembly through further axially deformable ducts and being respectively a blind duct and a flow-through duct suitable to allow the cooling fluid to flow towards the first and the second ducts. The second and third ducts, and preferably also the first duct, of the at least one connecting pipe have the same diameter of the supply pipes.

Device for supporting and oscillating continuous casting moulds in continuous casting plants

A micro-alloyed low carbon steel strip is obtained by hot rolling at temperature of the pre-strip never lower than 900&#xb0; C. and shows such metallurgical and geometrical features, as well as relating to planarity and deformability, to render the same suitable to obtain structures of low weight and good mechanical resistance, thus being able for use in replacement of cold rolled strips for the production of finished stamped or cut pieces. Said steel strip, having thickness&#x3e;0.7 mm, has a ratio yield load/breaking load&#x3e;70%, a fine grain structure better than grade 10 of ASTM E 112 standard in a percentage higher than 90% of the whole structure and a ratio between breaking limit under strain and yield point &#x3c3;/RPo.2&#x3e;90%.

Process and related plant for manufacturing steel plates with thickness &#x3c;100 mm and width of up to 4000 mm from a continuous casting step for slabs, comprising a liquid core reduction step, without interruptions until completion of a finishing rolling step with high reduction ratios in at least one stand. The average temperature when entering the rolling step is &#x2267;1200&#xb0; C., but can be reduced for unalloyed or low alloyed steel greatest.

Process and plant for manufacturing steel plates without interruption

A process for the manufacturing of steel strips with solution of continuity is described, comprising a continuous casting step for thin stabs with a high 'mass flow', a shearing step and subsequent heating in furnace, followed by a multiple stand rolling step, wherein the average temperature of the product at the inlet of the rolling is higher than the surface temperature, which is equal to at least 1100&#xb0; C., lower than that measured in the inner central area by about 100&#xb0; C. A plant is also described for the accomplishment of such process, wherein at the inlet of a furnace (), possibly of the induction type, combined with a temperature maintaining tunnel () a shear () is provided for, cutting into pieces () a slab () coming from continuous casting (), wherein the distance between the outlet of said continuous casting and the inlet into the finishing rolling mill () is not greater than 100 m.

Process and related plant for producing steel strips with solution of continuity

A process for manufacturing steel long products provides for starting from a continuous casting step with liquid core reduction, followed by induction heating without interruption until the end of a rolling step in a plurality of stands. The blooms or billets subjected to such a process have initial thickness in the range between 120 and 400 mm and a high 'mass flow' passing in the time unit at the outlet from the continuous casting, as well as an average temperature in the cross-section which is higher than the surface temperature, being in the core or inner middle region higher by 100&#xb0; C. than on the surface, that is of about 1200&#xb0; C. A plant for carrying out such a process is also described.

Process and related plant for manufacturing steel long products without interruption

A process and system for manufacturing metal strips of 0.14-20 mm thickness and metal sheets of 10-100 mm thickness from slabs of thickness between 30 and 300 mm by continuous casting of the bow type. The slab upon casting is fed without discontinuity directly to the rolling step after heating in an induction furnace without any intermediate product. The rolled flat product is withdrawn as sheet upon controlled cooling, by means of cutting and withdrawal device or wound on a reel to form a coil of a continuous strip severable by cutting device downstream of a cooling system. Surface cooling devices can be provided between rolling stands. The feed speed from continuous casting to the end of rolling is increasing step by step in relation to the thickness reductions and the quality of the end product, with regulation in cascade to the downstream direction.

Process and system for manufacturing metal strips and sheets without discontinuity between continuous casting and rolling

Ultrathin hot rolled steel strips are obtained from thin slabs using a continuous casting process and production line. The process and production line includes a secondary cooling system, a roughing mill, an induction heating zone to fix temperatures of the intermediate strip chosen between 1000 and 1400&#xb0; C., a final rolling zone to reduce the thickness of the hot finished strip while keeping a controlled temperature of the hot rolled strip from the last stand of the finishing rolling mill higher than 750&#xb0; C. The strip is cooled between the last stand of the finishing rolling mill and the coiling station using a specific T.T.T diagram (time-temperature-transformation) for steel quality and strip thickness. A control system is also provided with a master system and six further peripheric sub-systems.

Process and production line for manufacturing ultrathin hot rolled strips based on the thin slab technique

A system and the relevant thermo-electromechanical process with two superimposed devices (A) able to coil and uncoil a pre-strip () by reversing their positions, provided with outer () and inner () burners to respectively equalize and optimize the temperature along the whole pre-strip by means of special algorithms of the control software, suited to also control the speed, acceleration and deceleration, both in the coiling and uncoiling step, of the chuck () up to the advanced stop during coiling to let a segment of tail () of the pre-strip out of the device (A). A particular structure of the chuck ()is also described.

Thermo-electromechanical process and system for coiling and uncoiling an in-line hot rolled pre-strip from thin slab continuous casting

A process for the production of cold rolled finished strip with thickness of 0.5-0.1 mm and a maximum width of 2000 mm for direct preparation of end products such as pressed and deep drawn pieces from thin slab casting with a thickness of the bar leaving the mold of 90-50 mm, with preparation of pressed pieces and transfer of the finished pieces to the end user and return of the processing scrap to the steel manufacturing cycle. Also a production line for carrying out such a process is described.

An improved mould for the continuous casting of steel slabs having thickness in the range from 50-120 mm, particularly suitable to be rolled to thin strips, presents two large faces (F), each one having in horizontal cross section a concave or rectilinear central zone symmetrical with respect to each other, connected at both sides to the narrow faces (f) through concave-convex wide bends with respect to the internal part of the mould, without other lengths being parallel to opposite portions of the other face (F), besides to a possible central rectilinear length. the radiuses of the concave portion (r1) and of the convex portion (r2) are in a mutual ratio of a range from 0.6 to 1.4, these portions being preferably the same at each horizontal cross section of the mould and increasing downwards, while the depth (a) of the concavity decreases downwards, being possibly constant from a height (ybc) to the outlet section, but being preferably continuously decreasing along the whole length of the mould, with a residual depth &lE;5 mm at the outlet zone.
