The present invention relates to a filtering device () for removing substances from blood or a blood component, the filtering device () comprising: a housing having an inlet and an outlet, at first sorbent material coupled with at least a first ligand located within the housing, and a second sorbent material coupled with at least a second ligand located within the housing, wherein the first ligand is for removing free hemoglobin (fHb) and the second ligand is for removing microvesicles (MV) from the blood or blood component passing through the filtering device (), from the inlet to the outlet, wherein the first and second ligand are different from each other, and wherein the first and second sorbent material are the same or are different from each other.

The invention relates to a blood filter, a system comprising a blood filter and the use of a blood filter or system for the removal of substances from whole blood or blood components. According to the invention, a blood filter comprises an inlet (), an outlet () and at least first fibers disposed between the inlet () and the outlet () for filtering a fluid being communicated between the inlet () and the outlet (), wherein each of the first fibers comprises at least one groove extending in the longitudinal direction of the fiber.

The invention relates to a sterile system and a method for filtering biological or medical liquids, especially blood or blood constituents. According to the filtering system and method, the sterile air already in the system is collected before the beginning of the filtration process, and after the filtration process, in order to completely empty the system used. Said filtering system comprises a collapsible container having a first and second air inlet/outlet line. The first air inlet/outlet line communicates with the first chamber of the filter by means of a flow connection, and the second air inlet/outlet line with the second chamber of the filter. Only the air inlet/outlet line communicating with the first filter chamber is sealed by a hydrophobic membrane or a return valve in the filtering system, such that the system has an especially simple structure.

Sterile system and method for filtering biological or medical liquids, especially blood or blood constituents

The invention relates to a device and a method for separating whole blood into blood components. The device has a collecting container for collecting whole blood, a primary container, and one or a plurality of satellite containers downstream from the primary container. The collecting container is connected to the primary container via a branch line containing a leucocyte filter. In addition, a bypass line is provided between the collecting container and the primary container for creating a fluid connection that circumvents the leucocyte filter. The primary container is also connected, via an additive line, to an additive container containing an additive agent for storing a blood component. The method involves collecting the donor's whole blood in the collecting container and conveying it, via the bypass line, into the primary container. The whole blood located in the primary container is then separated by centrifuigation into an erythrocyte layer and a mixed layer of blood plasma and thrombocytes. The mixed layer of blood plasma and thrombocytes is then conveyed from the primary container into the first satellite container. Subsequently, the erythrocytes in the primary container are resuspended in the additive agent, then conveyed from the primary container through the leucocyte filter into the collecting chamber.

Device and method for separating blood into blood components

A disposable sterile apparatus (1) for blood filtration with a system for the optimization of blood recovery in the passage from one pouch to the next, having a main tube (4, 8, 13, 18, 19) containing sterile air, one end of which is designed for the connection to a first container (pouch) (2) containing the liquid to be filtered and the other end of which is connected to a second empty container (pouch) (20). The foregoing tube (4, 8, 13, 18, 19) includes at least one filter (12) being arranged in the flow of the liquid. The apparatus (1) contains a tube (7) for the return of air from the second (20) to the first container (2) acting to equalize pressure of the liquid at the two extremities of the main tube (4, 8, 13, 18, 19) after the liquid has been filtered. The filter (12) features two interior semi-chambers with filtration material separating them. The first semi-chamber has an inlet port while the second semi-chamber has an outlet port and a venting port. Tubing (14) allows the venting port to communicate with the end of the main tube connected to the first container (2) so that the filter may be emptied.
