The invention relates to an illumination system (), a luminaire (), a collimator (), and a display device (). The illumination system according to the invention comprises a light source () and the collimator. The light source is configured to emit a substantially Lambertian light distribution around an axis of symmetry (). The refractive collimator is configured to redirect light from the light source so as to at least partially illuminate an illuminating surface (), in which at least a part of the illuminating surface is substantially parallel to the axis of symmetry. The refractive collimator comprises a concave entrance window () and an at least partially convex exit window () for refracting light towards the illuminating surface. The illumination system according to the invention has the effect that a height of the illumination system may be reduced by virtue of the use of the refractive collimator.

Illumination system, luminaire, collimator, and display device

A lighting device () comprises a light source () and a lens () positioned in front of the light source (). The lens () is provided with a light entrance surface on a side facing the light source () and a light exit surface () on a side remote from the light source (). The lens () comprises a number of strip-shaped interconnected elongated light guiding elements (), of which first ends () and spaced apart second ends () comprise the light entrance surface and light exit surface, respectively. Light beams emitted by the light source () are transmitted by total internal reflection in the elongated light guiding elements () from the first ends () to the spaced apart seconds ends ().

Disclosed is a luminaire having a light exit window () for emitting light from the luminaire, and a reflective screen () arranged opposite the light exit window. The luminaire further includes a light source () which is arranged for indirect illumination of the light exit window via the reflective screen. The light source is arranged near the light exit window on an imaginary plane P substantially parallel to the light exit window and emits light away from the light exit window. The luminaire further includes a specularly reflective part () as part of the reflective screen, which specularly reflective part is concavely shaped for reflecting at least part of the light emitted by the light source towards a diffusely reflective part () of the reflective screen.

Luminaire and illumination system

It is disclosed a light-emitting device () comprising a light guide (), comprising a first () and a second () output surface portion. The light-emitting device () further comprises a plurality of light-outcoupling elements () and an array of beam-forming structures (). The light-outcoupling elements () are positionally arranged relatively to the beam-forming structures () such as to enable light that is impinging on at least one of the light-outcoupling elements () and subsequently being incident on a surface portion of a beam-forming structure () to be within a predetermined angle interval with respect to the surface portion. Each of the beam-forming structures () is adapted to enable light leaving a surface portion of the beam-forming structure () to be within a predetermined angle interval with respect to the surface portion. Both direct, functional light and indirect light may be provided, an increased optical efficiency may be achieved, glare control properties of the light outputted from the light-emitting device () may be improved and/or the ratio of light outputted from the first surface portion () of the light guide () to light outputted from the second surface portion () of the light guide () may be adjusted.

Light-emitting device

The invention relates to an illumination system (), a luminaire (), a collimator () and a display device (). The illumination system according to the invention comprises a light source () and the collimator. The light source is configured for emitting a substantially Lambertian light distribution around a symmetry axis (). The refractive collimator is configured for redirecting light from the light source to at least partially illuminate an illuminating surface () in which at least a part of the illuminating surface being substantially parallel to the symmetry axis. The refractive collimator comprises a concave input window () and an at least partially convex output window () for refracting light towards the illuminating surface. The effect of the illumination system according to the invention is that a height of the illumination system may be reduced due to the use of the refractive collimator.

Illumination  system, luminaire and display device

The present invention relates to light emitting devices and more specifically to light emitting devices comprising light guides making use of total internal reflection (TIR). The light emitting device () comprises a substrate (), a plurality of light sources () mounted on the substrate () and a light guide plate (). Reflective shielding () is arranged to shield the light guide plate () at positions were the flux of the direct light of the light sources () towards the light guide plate () have their maximum density in a powered state of the light sources (). The reflective shielding () enhances the mixing of light and avoids glare problems. In-coupled is transmitted within the light guide plate () by total internal reflection so that light from different light sources () is mixed within the light guide plate (). Further, at least a part of the lower surface is provided with an optical structure () for out-coupling of light.

The invention relates to a luminaire () and an illumination system (). The luminaire according to the invention comprises a light exit window () for emitting light from the luminaire, and a reflective screen () arranged opposite the light exit window. The luminaire further comprises a light source () which is arranged for indirect illumination of the light exit window via the reflective screen. The light source is arranged near the light exit window on an imaginary plane P substantially parallel to the light exit window and emits light away from the light exit window. The luminaire further comprises a specularly reflective part () as part of the reflective screen, which specularly reflective part is concavely shaped for reflecting at least part of the light emitted by the light source towards a diffusely reflective part () of the reflective screen. The luminaire according to the invention has the effect that use of the specularly reflective part allows an improved controlled reflection of the portion of the light emitted by the light source towards the diffusely reflective part.

Luminaire for indirect illumination

The illumination system includes a light source, a diffusing element and a specular back reflector. The light source is configured to emit light towards the specular back reflector reflecting at least part of the light emitted by the light source so as to illuminate the diffusing element. The specular back reflector is shaped to generate a substantially homogeneous distribution across the diffusing element of a light flux impinging on the diffusing element.

A light-emitting device comprises a light source adapted to emit light of a first wavelength range; a reflective body comprising a reflective layer; a wavelength converting layer comprising a wavelength converting material adapted to absorb light of said first wavelength range and to emit light of a second wavelength range, said wavelength converting layer and said light source being arranged mutually spaced apart; and light-scattering elements adapted to scatter light of at least said first wavelength range; wherein at least part of said light-scattering elements are arranged in the path of light from said light source to said wavelength converting layer. The light-emitting device according to the invention provides improved uniformity in color and also improved brightness uniformity.
