A description follows of a bimetallic catalyst, obtained by dispersing in sequence and alternating the precursors of the single metal components of the catalyst on a carrier, and a process for the synthesis of hydrogen peroxide by the direct reaction of hydrogen with oxygen, in a solvent medium containing a halogenated promoter and an acid promoter, in the presence of said catalyst.

Catalyst and process for the direct synthesis of hydrogen peroxide

A process is described for the production of hydrogen peroxide from hydrogen and oxygen in a reaction solvent containing a halogenated promoter and/or an acid promoter, in the presence of a heterogeneous catalyst based on one or more metals of the platinum group, wherein the reaction solvent consists of: (1) an alcohol or mixture of alcohols; (2) an aliphatic ether having general formula (I); and (3) optionally water. The solvent mixture may also contain one or more C&#x2013;Chydrocarbons. The process operates under high safety conditions with a high productivity and molar selectivity towards the formation of HO.

Direct synthesis of hydrogen peroxide in a multicomponent solvent system

The present invention relates to a catalyst consisting of: (a) one or more metals of the platinum group as active components; (b) one or more polyolefins; and (c) a carrier. The invention also relates to a process for the synthesis of hydrogen peroxide (HO) from hydrogen and oxygen which uses said catalyst and the use of the hydrogen peroxide solution in oxidation processes catalyzed by titanium silicalite. The process operates under high safety conditions with a high productivity and molar selectivity towards the formation of HO.

Catalyst and its use in the synthesis of hydrogen peroxide

Process for the production of concentrated aqueous solutions of hydrogen peroxide, comprising the following steps: (a) feeding to a reactor containing a catalyst based on palladium and platinum, heterogeneous and maintained in dispersion in a liquid reaction medium: (i) a liquid stream consisting of an alcohol or a mixture of C1&#x2013;C3 alcohols or a mixture of said alcohols with water containing at least 50% by weight of alcohol, also containing an acid promoter and a halogenated promoter, the alcohol and optionally all or part of the water contained in the stream being recycled from the subsequent phase d); (ii) a gaseous stream containing hydrogen, oxygen and an inert gas, characterized in that the concentration of the hydrogen is less than 4.5% by volume and the concentration of the oxygen is less than 21% by volume, the complement to 100 being an inert gas; (b) removing from the reactor: (iii) a liquid stream consisting of stream (i) and also containing the hydrogen peroxide and water produced by the reaction, characterized in that the concentration of hydrogen peroxide ranges from 2% to 10% by weight; and (iv) a gaseous stream essentially consisting of non-reacted hydrogen and oxygen and the inert gas, (c) optionally adding to (iii) water in such a quantity so that its content is at least equal to that of the final aqueous solution of hydrogen peroxide; (d) sending the stream deriving from (c) to a system consisting of one or more evaporators or distillation columns from which the following are removed: (v) one or more streams containing all the alcohol and possibly water, which are recycled to (a); (vi) a concentrated aqueous solution of H2O2 at a concentration ranging from 15 to 60% by weight; (vii) optionally a stream containing the water fed in excess in (c).

Process for the production of hydrogen peroxide

The present invention relates to an integrated process for the preparation in continuous of epoxides which comprises: (a) preparing an alcoholic or hydro-alcoholic solution of hydrogen peroxide in a concentration of over 3% by weight, using a gaseous stream containing hydrogen, oxygen and an inert gas, in the presence of a bimetallic catalyst based on palladium and platinum as active components; (b) putting the alcoholic or hydro-alcoholic solution of hydrogen peroxide obtained in step (a) in contact with an olefin and a buffering agent, in the presence of an epoxidation catalyst suspended in the reaction solvent, in order to obtain a reaction mixture containing the epoxide corresponding to the olefin, water and alcoholic solvent; (c) treating the alcoholic stream leaving step (b), after separation of the epoxide, in order to eliminate the nitrogenated compounds present; (d) feeding the alcoholic solvent obtained in (c) to step (a). The process may comprise a further step (e), wherein the raw hydro-alcoholic mixture of the flash column bottom, is used, when necessary, for diluting the alcoholic or hydro-alcoholic solution of hydrogen peroxide obtained in step (a) to the value required by the epoxidation plant. The process operates under high safety conditions and with a high overall efficiency, in terms of productivity and selectivity.
