A transceiver module release system is disclosed. The system may be used to release a transceiver module housed in a cage that is permanently mounted on a printed circuit board. The release system may include a bail that rotates a slide-block through a slot to urge the bail forward in a slide-block path on the transceiver module. The bail has a hook shaped structure adapted to be connected with a detachable pull tab. As the bail begins to move forward from the locked position, wedge elements at the end of a pair of slide-block arms extending rearward from the bail may contact locking tabs on the cage, forcing the locking tabs outward. As the locking tabs are forced outward, the shoulders of the transceiver module are released, and the transceiver module is free to slide-block out of the cage as the operator pulls on the bail.

Transceiver module release mechanism

A fiber optic connector release mechanism for releasing a transceiver module in a cage permanently mounted on a PCB is disclosed. The release mechanism includes a bail rotating a U-shaped flange through a two stage travel path to urge the bail forward in a slide path on the transceiver module. The release mechanism includes a boss disposed on one of the bail and the arm assembly and a dimple disposed on another of the bail and the arm assembly to secure the bail in a locked position. As the bail moves forward from the locked position, wedge elements at the end of arms extending rearward may contact locking tabs on the cage, forcing the locking tabs outward. As the locking tabs are forced outward, the shoulders of the transceiver module are released, and the transceiver module is free to slide out of the cage.

Fiber optic transceiver module release mechanism

A fiber optic connector release mechanism is disclosed. The mechanism may be used to release a transceiver module housed in a cage that is permanently mounted on a printed circuit board. The release mechanism may include a cam mounted bail that rotates a U-shaped flange through a two stage travel path to urge the bail forward in a slide path on the transceiver module. As the bail begins to move forward, wedge elements at the end of a pair of slide arms extending rearward from the bail may contact locking tabs on the cage, forcing the locking tabs outward. As the locking tabs are forced outward, the shoulders of the transceiver module are released, and the transceiver module is free to slide out of the cage as the operator pulls on the bail.

A fiber optic connector release mechanism that is used to release a transceiver module from a cage assembly includes a pivoting bail that operates a slide plate on the transceiver module. The locking mechanism comprises a locking projection on an underside of the module housing which mates with an aperture in a flexible locking tab on an underside of the cage. When the release mechanism is actuated, a flexible lifting tab on the slide plate is urged upward by a trailing edge of the locking projection on an underside of the module housing, which in turn moves the locking tab on the cage upward, thereby disengaging the locking tab from the locking projection.

Fiber optic module release mechanism

An EMI shield for a transceiver module includes a plurality of collapsible fingers that allow the shield to be sealed at the corners when the transceiver is inserted into a receiving cage. The fingers of the shield are made with a designed interference with the cage, so that the fingers are compressed when the module is inserted into the cage. A pattern of peaks and valleys on the fingers bordering the corners of the shield allows the two adjacent fingers to mesh when the module is inserted into the cage. The meshing of the peaks-and-valleys pattern of the bordering fingers allows the shield to be sealed with a gap width under 0.015&#x2033;.

A universal holder for optical subassembly devices includes a clamping element affixed to a main body. The main body of the holder includes four locating surfaces to accurately position the optical subassemblies in the transceiver module. The main body further includes a central opening that receives a front ferrule of the optical subassembly. The central opening locates the optical subassembly in the x-y plane so that the optical subassembly is concentric with the holder. The locating surfaces accurately seat the optical subassembly in the transceiver module. The clamping element comprises a plurality of clamping arms that contact the back side of a flange on the front ferrule of the optical subassembly. When the holder is assembled to the optical subassembly, hooked ends of the arms secure the holder to the flange.

Universal optical subassembly holder

A package for a fiber optic transceiver that integrates the intermediate rear gasket into the lower body of the transceiver package. As such, the EMI fingers are much thicker than current art EMI fingers, 0.010&#x2033; thick as compared to current art 0.002&#x2033; thick. In current art devices, providing such robust EMI fingers is not possible. The connecting pins that secure the transceiver cage to the PCB are self-centering press-fit pins formed from a plurality of legs. At least one of the legs provides an electrical connection point for the transceiver on which the pins are used. The connecting pin is formed so that the legs act as leaf springs to securely hold the connector in place in the proper installation hole in the board on which the transceiver is installed. The pins are stamped from sheet metal with a progressive die process. By changing the amount of flexion in the legs of the pin, the pressure required to insert the pin into a connection hole, and hence the retaining pressure, can be varied.

A fiber optic connector release mechanism that is used on a transceiver module housed in a cage assembly permanently mounted on a printed circuit board. The release mechanism comprises a sliding handle operated by a cam mounted bail. The cam mounted bail has a two stage travel path. When the bail is released from its locked position, it rotates through the first stage of the cam slot through an arc of approximately 45&#xb0;. As the bail rotates past 45&#xb0; in the second stage of the cam slot, the cooperation of a first axis pin mounted in the cam slot and a second axis pin mounted in a straight second slot in the handle urges the handle forward in a slide path on the transceiver module. As the handle begins to move forward, wedge elements at the ends of a pair of slide arms extending rearward from the handle contact locking tabs on the cage assembly. As the handle slides forward in the slide path, the wedge elements force the locking tabs outward. As the locking tabs are forced outward, the shoulders of the transceiver module are released, and the transceiver module is free to slide out of the cage assembly as the operator pulls on the handle.
