A method and apparatus is provided for connecting a communication device to a deployable system. The deployable system obtains at least one deployable key derived on a fixed system for the deployable system based on an existing key stored on a database of the fixed system, wherein the existing key is used to authenticate a communication device. The deployable system stores the derived key. Subsequent to the storing, the deployable system is activated to provide communication resources to communication devices disconnected from the fixed system. The activated deployable system is not connected to the fixed system. The activated deployable system receives an authentication request from the communication device requesting connection to the deployable system; generates authentication vectors using the at least one derived deployable key; and authenticates an authentication response received from the communication device using the authentication vectors.

Disclosed are methods and systems for controlling network selection between a current wireless network and a higher-priority wireless network. A subscriber station determines, while connected to a current wireless network, whether it is within a coverage area of a higher-priority wireless network and whether a current traffic data load is indicative of lower-priority background traffic or higher-priority foreground traffic. Responsive to determining that it is within the coverage area of the higher-priority wireless network and that the current traffic data load is indicative of lower-priority background traffic, the subscriber station halts at least the lower-priority background traffic for a predetermined amount of time sufficient to effect a release of a radio resource control (RRC) connection with the current wireless network and searches for and connects to the higher-priority wireless network.

Disclosed herein are methods and systems for allocating resources from component carriers to a public-safety mobile radio. An embodiment takes the form of a process that is carried out by carried out by a Long-Term Evolution (LTE) Evolved Node B (eNodeB). The eNodeB makes a first determination to allocate resources to a given mobile radio. The eNodeB makes a second determination that the given mobile radio is a public-safety mobile radio. In response to making the first and second determinations, the eNodeB selects, based on one or more public-safety-communication criteria, a component carrier from among a plurality of component carriers managed by the eNodeB. The eNodeB allocates resources on the selected eNodeB component carrier to the given mobile radio.

A broadband device () can detect a proximate narrowband transmission () from a narrowband communication device (). The narrowband transmission () can be in close enough proximity () to at least one bearer channel of the broadband device () to result in interference on the narrowband reception () when the broadband device () is transmitting and the narrowband communication device () is concurrently receiving. Responsive to the detecting, the broadband device () can gate a broadband transmission () to ensure the broadband transmission () does not interfere with the proximate narrowband reception (). Upon receiving a handoff request message, the target base station selects either the requested service option or an alternate service option. The alternate service option is chosen based on one or more of the MS's service option capabilities, service option priorities, and resources available in the target BS. This information is used to determine a temporal offset for packets of information. A method and system for time aligning a frame (60) in a communication network (10) involves the steps of; i) determining if a frame needs to be advanced at a BTS (14), and ii) sending a shortened synchronization pattern from the BSC (12). The communications controller is coupled to radio communication units (330, 340, 350), each having a packet buffer (331) and an alignment processor (332) which includes a packet number detector (333) for detecting the transmission timing tag and sending a request for a packet numbering adjustment to the communications controller and a timing alignment detector (334) for comparing a receive time of the first information packet and a predetermined preferential receive time and for sending a timing alignment request to the communications controller.
