A method displays a first data visualization according to user association of data fields with displayed data visualization properties. The data visualization includes visual data marks corresponding to data values for data fields in a dataset. A user selects a subset of the visual data marks. A popup summary is displayed that includes data value distributions for several data fields from the dataset. In the popup summary, a second user input is detected corresponding to a first data field whose data value distribution is displayed in the popup summary. The second user input associates the first data field with a first visualization property of the displayed data visualization properties. In response, a second data visualization is displayed according to association of data fields, including the first data field, with displayed data visualization properties.

A method displays a first data visualization according to user placement of data fields in shelves of a user interface. Each shelf specifies a property of the data visualization and the data visualization includes visual data marks corresponding to data values for data fields in a dataset. A user selects a subset of the visual data marks. A popup summary is displayed that includes data value distributions for several data fields. In the popup summary, a second user input is detected corresponding to a first data field whose data value distribution is displayed in the popup summary. In response, the method displays a moveable icon corresponding to the first data field. The method detects a third user input to place the interactive moveable icon in a shelf in the user interface. In response, a second data visualization is displayed according to placement of data fields, including the first data field.

An operating system provides an extensible share action to broker content sharing between applications executing on a computing platform such as a personal computer, tablet computer, or smartphone. The share action enables a consistent user experience for content sharing to be implemented across all applications and eliminates users having to switch from the current application they are using to some other functionality in order to share content. Applications can participate with the operating system share action as source applications and/or target applications. Source applications may describe what content is shareable given the current state of their application when the user chooses to invoke the share action. Target applications can be configured to receive the shared content from the source application according to content type, and will expose a companion view of their application to the user that is specifically tailored to facilitate sharing.

Extensible system action for sharing while remaining in context

Systems and methods for providing actions for users of a computer device from a lock screen interface are provided. A computing device may comprise a touch-sensitive display screen that may allow a user to scroll through a set of user interfaces that may comprise a set of lock screen interfaces&#x2014;one of which may be associated with the user, if authorized for using the computing device. The computing device may allow the user to scroll to one of the following: a set of locked screen interfaces, a set of sign-in interfaces, a set of applications allowed for use (e.g., a camera) by the computer device (even if the user is not signed-in) and a new mode of functionality for computing device (e.g., a children's entertainment application). The computer system may allow swiping from multiple discernible directions to allow the scrolling through user interfaces in a natural manner.
