Methods of implanting a prosthesis to repair a joint include exposing a first bone of the joint; resecting an end portion of the first bone to form a resected end defining a resection plane; forming a concavity in the resected end portion of the first bone using a shaping tool, the concavity extending at least through a full hemispherical arc; selecting a diameter of the prosthesis to be implanted; and implanting a prosthesis having the selected diameter in the concavity.

Various embodiments disclosed herein relate to stemmed and stemless humeral anchors for use in shoulder arthroplasty procedures. For example, the humeral anchor can include a first end, a second end, and an interior surface extending between the first end and the second end. A method of guiding a glenoid prosthesis is disclosed. The method includes preoperatively determining a position and an orientation of a guide feature of a glenoid guide of the present disclosure based on a scapula of a specific patient, and engaging the glenoid guide with the scapula; and inserting a pin having an axis through the guide feature to or through the scapula.

Embodiments of the present invention include a convertible prosthesis that is capable of conversion from a humeral head replacement to a reverse reconstruction without any removal of parts integrated into the patient's bony anatomy (e.g. implant stems). A desired overall implant inclination angle may be achieved by matching various implant stems with various reverse inserts, thus permitting a resection surface to be matched with an implant stem selection while also permitting a desired overall implant inclination angle to be achieved through the selection of an appropriate insert.

Various apparatus and methods for implanting glenoid prostheses are disclosed. In various embodiments, a method for performing shoulder surgery can include guiding a guide pin into the glenoid surface along a reaming axis. A partial reaming guide can be placed in contact with the glenoid surface over the guide pin. A reamer can be guided over the guide pin to ream the glenoid surface. The reamer can be further advanced over the guide pin until the reamer contacts the partial reaming guide, whereby such contact limits reaming to only a portion of the glenoid surface.

Methods of implanting a prosthesis to repair a joint include displacing a first bone from the joint formed by an intersection between the first bone and a second bone. An end portion of the first bone is resected to define a resected end. A concavity is formed into the resected end using a shaping tool. The bone is compacted to form a support layer lining the concavity. The prosthesis is implanted in the concavity against the support layer without attaching the prosthesis to the support layer. The joint is reformed with the prosthesis such that the prosthesis remains unattached to the support layer and the first and second bones articulate about the prosthesis.
