A method for generating views of a heart along anatomically useful planes includes generating a prescription image of a heart, receiving data regarding a position of at least one landmark on the prescription image to define a series of slices through the heart along at least one anatomical plane lane, generating a plurality of images under software control, and saving the generated images.

One embodiment of the present invention is a method for analyzing tubular structures in a patient, including steps of: selecting a region of interest and a location within the region of interest from a displayed tube-shaped tree representative of a tubular structure in a patient; identifying a centerline of a structure within the tube-shaped tree within the region of interest; and displaying one or more views of the region of interest. The view or views are selected from at least a segmented 3-D view having the region of interest identified, a curved view of the selected branch, a reformatted view dependent upon the identified centerline, and a 3-D view dependent upon the identified centerline.

A method for analyzing a tubular structure in a patient includes receiving a cursor first position within a displayed tubular structure representative of the tubular structure in the patient, determining a path inside the tubular structure based only on the received cursor first position, and moving a cursor along the path by a pre-determined distance in a pre-determined direction to a cursor second position.

A method for interactively creating a region of interest of a reconstructed image includes defining a thickness value, defining a polygon, and defining a 3D projection geometry. The method also includes defining a vector perpendicular to a line of sight which is defined by the 3D projection geometry, swiping the vector along the polygon to create a surface of interest, and displaying three dimensionally a plurality of points wherein a distance from the points to the created surface along the line of sight is approximately the defined thickness value or less.

Methods and apparatus for defining regions of interest

One embodiment of the present invention is a method for interactively rotating a sampling surface of a reconstructed computed tomographic (CT) image. The method includes steps of: scanning a volume of a patient to collect a plurality of slices of image data; displaying an image slice including a structure of interest on a display; defining a segmented line approximating a centerline of the structure of interest; selecting a rotation vector, a reference vector, and an angle; generating a sampling vector as a function of the rotation vector, the reference vector, and the selected angle; and generating a curved reformation image from the plurality of slices of image data using the segmented line and the sampling vector.
