A method is described herein to detect and treat hypoglycemia. An example of this method involves the detection of hypoglycemia in a patient with a computing device, computation of a recommended carbohydrate amount to ingest by the patient with the computing device in response to said detecting the hypoglycemia, output of the recommended carbohydrate amount with the computing device, and the performance of a hypoglycemia surveillance with the computing device to determine whether the recommended carbohydrate amount remedied the hypoglycemia.

Method for the detection and handling of hypoglycemia

A diabetes therapy device is disclosed herein, which includes a profile memory storing a parameter profile and a dedicated reference time mark. The parameter profile defines at least one parameter that is associated with insulin administration as a function of time for a generally circadian chronobiological cycle. The reference time mark indicates the beginning of the circadian chronobiological cycle and initializes a running time. Insulin amounts to be administered are determined as a function of the running time in accordance with a current matching of the parameter profile. A modified matching based on the reference time mark and an upcoming trigger time is computed and is time-shifted from the current matching, wherein the modified matching is applied by making the modified matching the current matching, such that future insulin amounts to be administered are determined in accordance with the modified matching.

Diabetes therapy device enabling shifting of parameter profiles

An automatically operating injection device with an occlusion alarm unit and a method for determining an injection occlusion are disclosed. The method includes generating a plurality of evaluation forces based on a series of force measurements and based on an evaluation time period; determining whether an occlusion exists based on either an evaluation of the plurality of evaluation forces or whether one or more of the series of force measurements exceeds a force threshold; and providing an injection occlusion alarm if an occlusion is determined to exist.
