A multimode optical fiber includes a central core and an outer cladding (e.g., an outer optical cladding). Typically, the optical fiber's central core is a depressed, central core having an alpha-index profile (i.e., a graded-index profile), an outer radius r, and a maximum refractive index difference &#x394;nwith respect to the outer cladding. The central core's alpha-index profile has a minimum refractive index at the central core's outer radius rthat corresponds to a refractive index difference &#x394;nwith respect to the outer cladding. Exemplary optical-fiber embodiments may include an inner cladding having an outer radius rand a width w. Exemplary optical-fiber embodiments may include a buried trench having a width wand an outer radius r. Furthermore, exemplary optical-fiber embodiments may include an intermediate cladding having an outer radius rand a width w.

High-bandwidth, radiation-resistant multimode optical fiber

In harsh and hazardous environments, the presence of elevated levels of hydrogen gas is an indicator of chemical and/or radiological activity. The present hydrogen-sensing optical fiber provides rapid and reliable hydrogen detection and quantification, irrespective of temperature fluctuations. The hydrogen-sensing optical fiber does not exhibit significant irreversible hydrogen-induced attenuation losses after exposure to a hydrogen-rich atmosphere.

A microstructured optical fiber for generating broadband white light having a core doped with germanium and silica cladding surrounding the core, the cladding including a plurality of holes arranged in the form of a regular mesh, wherein the diameter F of a hole in the cladding, the pitch L between the respective centers of two neighboring holes in the cladding, and the refractive index difference Dn between the germanium-doped fiber core and the silica of the cladding are such that the fiber can generate white light on the fundamental mode over a wavelength band having a width of at least 1000 nm.

A system for generating polychromatic light, which includes: an optical pumping device suitable for continuously or quasi-continuously emitting a monochromatic or quasi-monochromatic radiation according to a pumping wavelength; a device for guiding light arranged such as to emit polychromatic radiation continuously or quasi continuously, at the output thereof, and a device for coupling between the pumping and coupling device. In the system, the guiding device, includes a microstructured optical fiber in which the core is at least partially doped with a material having a high intrinsic non-linear response, and the geometry of the optical fiber and the doping rate of the core thereof are predetermined such as to adapt the zero dispersion length of the optical fiber to the pumping wavelength.

Optical fiber with holes

An optical fiber includes a coating comprising a cross-linked network comprising the reaction product of monomers and oligomers and at least one polymer dispersed or interpenetrated in the cross-linked network. The oligomer and polymer components used are at least partially fluorinated. The fiber-coating composition of the invention presents a refractive index that is low while satisfying the conditions for industrial fiber-drawing.
