Seismic data processing using matching filter based cost function optimization

A preserved-amplitude RTM-based FWI method is used to obtain an image of an explored subsurface formation. Model data corresponding to detected data is generated using a velocity model of the formation. Residuals representing differences between the modeled data and the detected data are back-propagated to then update the velocity model a local optimization based on a deconvolution formula employing a backward propagating wavefield and a forward propagating wavefield. Geophysical features of the formation are imaged based on the updated velocity model.

Full waveform inversion method for seismic data processing using preserved amplitude reverse time migration

A system and method are described herein for generating a velocity model of returned seismic signals for under-ocean floor environments. The system and method generate a series of source signals, receive a corresponding set of direct signals, reflected signals, and refracted signals, solve a velocity model equation using a full waveform inversion function with respect to the received set of direct signals, reflected signals and refracted signals to minimize a least square misfit function by relaxing a dependency on low frequency reflections in the full waveform inversion function. The system and method then generate the velocity model based on the solution to the velocity model equation, and display the velocity model.

Disclosed herein is a system and method for building a velocity model for a geographical area of interest (GAI). The system and method comprise determining a ray based tomography velocity image of said GAI using acquired data, determining a high resolution velocity guide (HRVG) image of said GAI, scaling said determined HRVG of said GAI, adding the scaled HRVG to the ray based tomography velocity image to determine an updated ray based tomography velocity image, and determining whether said updated ray based tomography velocity image has experienced convergence by determining whether a cost function of said ray based tomography velocity image does not improve compared to a previously determined cost function value of said ray based tomography velocity image.

System and method for ray based tomography guided by waveform inversion

A system and method are provided for determining a broadband high definition reflectivity based image for a geographical area of interest (GAI). The system and method generate a conventional reflectivity image based on acquired seismic data for the GAI, generate a high frequency (HF) velocity model of the GAI based on the acquired seismic data, convert the HF velocity model into a low frequency (LF) reflectivity image, and adaptively merge the LF reflectivity image with the conventional reflectivity image to form the broadband HD reflectivity image of the GAI.

There is a method of seismic data processing that includes receiving seismic data that includes a set of seismic traces, each trace including a signal recorded by a sensor after having been propagated in a subsurface area; migrating the seismic data according to a first velocity model; picking from the time-migrated seismic data one or more events corresponding to one or more subsurface reflectors so as to obtain a set of facets locally approximating the event; kinematic demigrating the picked set of facets so as to obtain simplified seismic data that includes the set of facets and a set of attributes associated with the set of facets; migrating the set of facets based on a second velocity model; and updating the initial velocity model based on an alignment of migrated points within the set of facets.
