The present invention relates to methods for forming a layered composite material, the finished product comprising at least one geopolymeric layer and at least one cement-based layer. The method of the invention allows the provision of products with more varied appearances, shapes, colours, gloss, or surface structures such as decorations, reliefs, roughness, or the like. Products obtained according to the method of the invention also form part of the invention.

A composition suitable for firing to obtain a ceramic material therefrom may include from about 1 to about 40 wt. % based on the total dry weight of the composition a first particulate material having a Mohs hardness of at least about 8.5 and a dof from about 7 &#x3bc;m to about 500 &#x3bc;m. The composition may include at least about 50 wt. % based on the total dry weight of the composition a second particulate material comprising alumina. The composition may include from 0 to about 10 wt. % based on the total dry weight of the composition a sintering aid. A green body or ceramic material may be formed from the composition. Ballistic armor may be formed from the composition or may include the ceramic material.

Ceramic compositions based on yttrium oxide contain a minor amount of a titanium oxide and are readily sintered into dense ceramic shaped articles well adopted for metallurgical applications.

Yttrium oxide/titanium oxide ceramic compositions

The present invention relates to a ceramic based on yttrium oxide and titanium oxide. This ceramic has a light transmission percentage of at least 20% in a wavelength range between 0.5 and 8 .mu.m. It also relates to a sintering process for obtaining said ceramic.
