A valve apparatus includes a housing, which defines an interior chamber, a baffle disposed in the interior chamber, and a volume of liquid. The housing includes first, second and third portions. The first portion includes first and second ports that communicate with the interior chamber. The second portion is spaced from the first portion along a longitudinal axis. And the third portion extends along the longitudinal axis between the first and second portions. The baffle at least partially defines a helical fluid flow path between the first and second ports, and the volume of the liquid is disposed in the second portion of the housing.

Passive pressure activation valve

A solenoid for use in a valve such as an exhaust gas recirculation valve for a motor vehicle. The solenoid includes a housing having a coil for generating a first magnetic field. An armature is slidably mounted in the housing. The solenoid further includes a permanent magnet having a second magnetic field, wherein the magnet is located adjacent the armature. In addition, a stator is affixed in the housing for cooperation with the armature and the magnet to form a third magnetic field.

A system and method for indicating leakage from a contained volume for holding volatile liquid, such as from an evaporative emission space of an automotive vehicle fuel system. A reciprocating pump operates to build pressure in the space toward a nominal test pressure. As the pressure is building toward nominal test pressure, but before nominal test pressure is achieved, measurements of substantially the amount of time required for the pump to execute a defined downstroke are repeatedly taken. These measurements may be referred to as pulse durations, and they are processed by an algorithm to detect when the rate of change in pulse duration changes from positive to negative, thereby defining the inflection point of a logistic curve. Subsequent measurements are taken and processed to predict a value at which substantially the pulse duration will ultimately stabilize. The predicted value is processed to indicate any leakage.
