The invention concerns a method of manufacturing an ophthalmic lens, comprising the steps of providing, mounting and blocking a substrate () on a machining support unit (), surfacing an upper face () of said substrate, edging a peripheral edge () of said substrate, wherein said machining support unit comprises a surfacing member () and an edging member () which are separable, said surfacing member having a cavity () in which said edging member is located during said step of surfacing, said surfacing and edging members being configured so that said substrate is mounted and blocked on said machining support unit in a first predetermined position for the surfacing and the edging and, between said steps of surfacing and edging, the method comprises the step of withdrawing said surfacing member from said machining support unit by retaining said substrate on said edging member.

The present invention relates to a transparent optical article comprising at least one dye at least partially inhibiting light having a wavelength ranging from 400 to 460 nm and at least one selective optical brightener that emits light by fluorescence at a wavelength ranging from 400 to 460 nm. The optical brightener acts as a means for at least partially balancing the color imparted to the transparent optical article by the dye, thus allowing for perception of said optical article as less yellow, and even colorless to an user or an observer.

The present invention relates to a transparent optical article (e.g. an ophthalmic lens) comprising a thermoplastic substrate and a dye at least partially inhibiting light having a wavelength ranging from 400 to 460 nm and an optical brightener for at least partially balancing the color imparted to the transparent optical article by the dye, wherein said optical brightener emits light by fluorescence at a wavelength ranging from 400 to 460 nm and is incorporated into a layer fused or bonded to the thermoplastic substrate. Said optical brightener allows for perception of said optical article as less yellow, and even colorless, to a user or to an observer. In addition, the UV-absorbers that may be present in the thermoplastic substrate do not negatively interact with the optical brightener.

A tinted optical article includes an optical substrate providing with an optical filter wherein the optical filter is configured to selectively emit light in at least one selected range of wavelengths of light in the visible spectrum of 460 nm to 530 nm, allowing retinal exposure of a wearer eye to chronobiological blue-enriched light.

An index value is calculated for rating an eyeglass with respect to protection against UV hazard. The index value is based on an integrated UV transmission value through the eyeglass and an integrated UV reflection value related to a back face of the eyeglass. Thus, the index value takes into account actual wearing conditions where UV eye exposure is due either to transmission through the eyeglass or reflection on the eyeglass back face. Respective index values obtained for a set of eyeglasses allow easy sorting of the eyeglasses with respect to UV protection efficiency.

A method of improving an initial color filter comprises a numerical generation of sinusoidal spectra. Two steps of selecting said spectra are then executed. The first selection is carried out according to a criterion of colorimetric similitude with respect to the initial filter. The second selection is carried out according to the capacity of dummy filters corresponding to each spectrum to restore hues in a natural manner. To do this, observations of samples of hues through each dummy filter are simulated numerically, using a color appearance model to take account of a visual perception of a human observer. In this way, an improved filter is determined, which has a color close to that of the initial filter and which affords a natural rendition of hues.

A quantitative evaluation of a color filter () in accordance with the capacity of said filter to restore hues comprises the use of a numerical color appearance model. Values of a perceptive attribute are calculated for hue samples (), by simulating the observation of each of the samples through the filter () and without a filter. The values of the perceptive attribute correspond to the visual perception of the samples by an observer (), and a deviation between the values with and without filter constitutes the result of the evaluation of the filter. Such a method makes it possible to quantitatively rank several color filters, and the ranking obtained corresponds to that which would be established by real observers evaluating the filters.

The invention concerns a method which consists in irradiating at least one face of the article with UV radiation, causing the article to be photodegraded over a thickness of at least 1 &#x3bc;m, and in contacting the irradiated face of the article with a colouring agent so as to diffuse the colouring agent in the entire thickness of the photodegraded surface layer of the article. The invention is useful for optical and ophthalmologic articles.

The invention concerns a method which comprises irradiating at least one face of an article with UV radiation, causing the article to be photodegraded over a thickness of at least 1 &#x3bc;m and contacting the irradiated face of the article with a coloring agent, so as to diffuse the coloring agent in the entire thickness of the photodegraded surface layer of the article. The invention is useful for optical and ophthalmologic articles.
